Currently, the Japanese automotive giant Mitsubishi is struggling in India and also in the global markets. However, now, in an attempt to give a boost to its sales, the company has recently taken the covers off the new 2025 Destinator SUV. This three-row, seven-seater SUV boasts a very macho style, and it is jam-packed with features. Here are all the details of the Mitsubishi Destinator and why the company should bring it to India to make a comeback.

2025 Mitsubishi Destinator: Everything you need to know

Mitsubishi has unveiled the Destinator as part of its new global lineup. It is currently available for sale in Indonesia and will be launched in South Asia, Latin America, the Middle East, and Africa. At the moment, the company has not announced its launch plans for India. However, enthusiasts want to see the Destinator arrive in India as well. This model replaces the aging Outlander SUV.

Design and dimension details

The 2025 Mitsubishi Destinator takes its inspiration from the 2024 DST Concept, which was unveiled by the company as a prototype. Dimensionally, the Destinator measures 4,680 mm in length, 1,840 mm in width, and its height is 1,780 mm. Its wheelbase is 2,815 mm, and it offers a ground clearance of 214 mm.

According to the company, its approach angle is 21°, ramp-over angle is 20.8°, and the departure angle is 25.5°. Now, coming to the design, at the front, the Destinator gets a bold, muscular, and modern front fascia. It gets two L-shaped LED DRLs with vertical slat DRLs on both ends. The centre comes with a hexagonal grille and vertical slats, along with an ADAS sensor and LED fog lights on the lower bumper.

Moving to the side profile, the main highlight is the tall window line of this SUV. It also gets modern-looking alloy wheels and traditional pull-type door handles. As for the rear, it gets tri-arrow-shaped LED taillights with Destinator badging on the tailgate. The bumper also gets aggressive yet classy styling.

Interior design and features

Mitsubishi has not filled the cabin of the Destinator with too many screens like other modern SUVs. It gets a simple, traditional dashboard with a good mix of physical buttons and an intuitive 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system. It also gets an 8.0-inch digital instrument gauge cluster and a chunky bezel.

Other notable highlights of the interior of this SUV include a Yamaha 8-speaker Dynamic premium audio system, panoramic sunroof, 64-color ambient lighting, and USB-C ports on all three rows. Speaking of three rows, the Destinator is a seven-seater SUV. The company has highlighted that the passengers in the third row will enjoy high hop points, spacious knee room, and dedicated AC vents.

Powertrain

Powering the Mitsubishi Destinator is a 1.5-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine. It is capable of producing 161 bhp and 250 Nm of torque. It gets a CVT gearbox and a front-wheel-drive layout. The company is offering this SUV with five driving modes, including Normal, Tarmac, Wet, Gravel, and Mud.

Why should the Mitsubishi Destinator be brought to India?

SUV craze will make it a big hit

Currently, the Indian automotive market is flooded with SUVs because buyers today only want to buy SUVs. Now, at this point, Mitsubishi does not offer any vehicle in India. So, if the company launches the Destinator, it will bring back the brand to the country. Also, in terms of the design, it looks like a proper SUV but will not be rugged due to a monocoque chassis. And at the moment, this is the recipe for a hit SUV in India.

Seven-seater SUVs are in demand

Another reason why Mitsubishi should bring it to India is because larger family buyers at the moment do not have a lot of options in the affordable segment. If launched, it will be rivalling the Hyundai Alcazar, Mahindra XUV700, and the Tata Safari, all of which are very popular in the country.

Massive brand recall

Mitsubishi is one of those brands who, at the moment, may not sell any new cars in the country. However, it still has a huge following. There are people who still own the iconic Pajero, Montero, Outlander, and others and are still happy with them. Now, if the company decides to bring the Destinator to India, it will surely have an enthusiast audience to cater to.

Feature-rich SUV

The Destinator, as stated above, will come jam-packed with features. Presently, Indian buyers want a lot of features in their new vehicles, and the Destinator will provide them with just that. Presently, the Hyundai Alcazar, Mahindra XUV700, and the Tata Safari are offered with all the same features as the Destinator.

Decent powertrain

The 1.5-litre, four-cylinder, turbocharged engine will be the motor that will be offered in India if launched. With 161 bhp and 250 Nm, the Destinator will not be a slouch. Most likely, this motor will be very smooth and refined, unlike the previous Mitsubishi SUVs.
