Skoda Sub-4 Meter Compact SUV Teased: Launch Timeline Revealed

There has been news about a new Skoda SUV for quite some time now. Recently, Skoda India has confirmed that this all new SUV will de debuted globally in this first month of the year 2025. Furthermore, we can expect it to be on sale from March 2025. Now, let’s talk about the details of this new car.
The upcoming Skoda SUV will be sub 4m to compete with cars such as the Tata Nexon, Hyundai Venue, Kia Sonet, Maruti Brezza, Renault Kiger and the Nissan Magnite. This new SUV will be based on a shortened version of the MQB A0 IN platform which is used in many other popular models such as the Skoda Slavia, Kushaq, Volkswagen Virtus and the Tiguan. As per reports, this new SUV is yet to be named and it will share multiple parts and design elements with its siblings.
The styling of the sub compact SUV will be similar to that of the newer Skoda cars such as the Epiq. Spy shots further reveal that this new car will borrow certain parts such as the steering wheel, gear knob, instrument cluster and the HVAC controls from the Kushaq and the Slavia.
In terms of length, this new SUV is smaller by 230 mm as compared to the Kushaq. The front doors of this car will exactly be the same as the Kushaq to save costs. However, the rear doors will be much shorter to account for the reduced length. The rear fascia will also be changed to keep the SUV under the sub-4 meter mark.
Klaus Zellmer, CEO of Skoda Auto said that “price position versus competition is very ambitious for the compact SUV, and that the brand has targets to achieve 75 percent localisation.”
Sources suggest that the brand will start using recycled materials to manufacture some parts of the cabin. This is a great initiative by Skoda and this will make them the first carmaker in India to do this.
Additionally, this new SUV will come loaded with features such as the alloy wheels, LED lighting setup, auto AC, touchscreen infotainment system with wireless connectivity, digital instrument cluster and much more. High end features such as cooled seats are also expected in higher variants.
Powering the car will be the same 1.0 litre three cylinder turbo petrol engine which is offered in both the Kushaq and Slavia. Power figures are not known yet but in other cars this engine produces 114 PS of power and 178 Nm of torque. Transmission options will include both the automatic and the manual.
There is no confirmation regarding the 1.5 litre TSI engine coming to this sub-compact SUV or not. It’s unlikely given the fact that the engine displacing over 1.2 liters would result in higher excise duty on cars measuring under 4 meters in length. This make the sub-4 meter Skoda SUV pricier than competition. The only option available in the sub-4 meter SUV segment with an engine bigger than 1.2 liter is the Maruti Vitara Brezza, which features a 1.5 liter unit. The 1.5 TSI turbo petrol engine on the sub-4 meter Skoda would be an enthusiast’s dream though.
