Tata Motors hopes to breathe fresh life into the premium hatchback segment with the new Altroz facelift, set to launch on May 22, 2025. The hatchback has already been revealed, and a lot has changed on the new model. It will have significant upgrades over the outgoing model. Let's do a quick rundown on these...

The Altroz has always been a good-looking car. It did justice to the 45X concept that was first showcased at the 2018 Auto Expo. The facelift will up the ante in terms of visual appeal. The body lines and surfaces have been refined for a more modern look. It will feature a full LED lighting setup. The headlamps are now sleeker and have LED elements inside. Integrated LED DRLs will also be offered. Even the fog lamps will be LED units, neatly integrated into the bumper, in a vertical fashion.

The outgoing Altroz features regular halogen headlamps and foglamps. The design at large, feels a lot meeker (and even dated in comparison).

Another major change lies in the grille design. The old Altroz had a less complex grille design. The new car, on the other hand, will get a bolder 3D front grille that will have heightened visual appeal.

The bumpers (both front and rear) have also been redesigned on the new car. The facelift will have a sharper, more aggressive bumper design. The pre-facelift car used to come with a softer design.

The most important change at the rear is the redesigned lighting setup. The tail lamp cluster gets LED elements inside and gets full-width LED lightbar as well. The rear is good-looking. Like the pre-facelift, the new hatchback will also feature Blacked-out panels on the tailgate. The design of these has, however, been changed.

Another change on the facelift is the wheel design. It will come with a new set of alloy wheels, which the carmaker calls 'Drag Cut' alloys. These will be 16-inch units.

Finally, the new Altroz will feature new flush-type door handles. The pre-facelift model used to come with regular pull-type units. The new handles are more stylish and easier to use. We have seen similar units on the Curvv.EV.

The colour palette will also see major rejig. The pre-facelift car used to be available in six colours. The new car will have five shades in its palette- Dune Glow, Ember Glow, Royal Blue, Pure Grey and Pristine White. At least some of these seem to be tasteful evolutions of the previous car's colours.

The interior will see major overhaul on the new Altroz. The dashboard will feature a new layout, along with updated trims and colours. Tata Motors calls this layout 'Grand Prestigia'. Design similarities can be found with the interiors of the Nexon and Curvv.

The feature list has been thoroughly revised on the new Altroz. The pre-facelift model used to come with a semi-digital instrument cluster. The new car makes a complete transition to a 10.25-inch all-digital instrument cluster.

The infotainment screen on the previous Altroz was a much smaller unit. The new car will have a larger 10.25-inch high-definition touchscreen by Harman.

The previous Altroz used to come with a three-spoke steering wheel with audio, telephony and cruise controls. The facelifted model will have a more modern, two-spoke steering wheel with an illuminated Tata logo at the centre. Tata calls this the 'Smart Digital Steering Wheel'.

The new car will also come with features like air purifier, connected car tech, ventilated seats, single-pane sunroof, in-built map view, wireless charger, an 8-speaker sound system (same as the pre-facelift), auto AC with rear vents, push-button start/stop, cruise control, auto-folding ORVMs, a blind-spot monitor, a 360-degree parking camera and refreshed ambient lighting. It will also have new seats and revised beige seat upholstery. The outgoing model has Black fabric seats. The new colourway will make the cabin feel more spacious and airy.

The new Altroz will be available in five trim levels- Smart, Pure, Creative, Accomplished S, and Accomplished+ S. When launched, it will compete with the likes of Maruti Suzuki Baleno, Hyundai i20, and Toyota Glanza.

The facelift will have no change in its powertrain choices. It will retain the same engine and transmission options as the previous car. A 1.2-litre naturally aspirated (NA) petrol, and a 1.5-litre diesel engines are to be expected. The NA petrol will deliver 88 hp while the diesel will have 90 hp on offer. There will also be a factory-fitted CNG version available, with an output of around 74hp. The meatier 120hp, 1.2L turbocharged petrol will likely remain limited to the Racer variant.
