2025 Tesla Model Y Spotted Testing In India Alongside Previous Generation Model

The American EV manufacturing giant Tesla Inc., which is led by the billionaire Elon Musk, is about to enter the Indian automotive market. As per the reports, the first two models which will be launched by the brand in India will be the Model 3 and the Model Y. Over the last few days, we have seen a test mule of the new 2025 facelifted Model Y being tested on Indian roads. Now, recently, a few images have been shared online in which this particular new Model Y was seen alongside the old generation Model Y.
These images showing the old and new Tesla Model Y being parked in the same parking lot have been shared on X by Ishan Agarwal. In these images, we can note that the new Tesla Model Y, which was recently facelifted in January of this year, was parked and had full body camouflage. We can note that it was wearing a red temporary registration plate.
Along with this new Model Y, we can note that just behind it is an older generation model. This particular model was seen finished in blue color and was not wearing any camouflage. This particular model was also seen with a red temporary registration number.
As per the reports, the company is currently benchmarking the new Tesla Model Y with the old generation Model Y. They could also be comparing the performances of the two models and adapting the new one for the Indian market. Also, the new Model Y has been spotted testing in Pune for a while for the ARAI certification, which is mandatory for any car that has to be sold in India.
As mentioned, the first model to be launched in India by Tesla Inc. will be the Model Y. This mid-size electric SUV will be offered in India for sale before the second half of this year. As for the variants, the Model Y is expected to get a rear-wheel drive variant which will get a 59 kWh battery pack offering a range of 455 km. As for the electric motor, it will be able to produce 231 bhp and 380 Nm of torque.
There could also be a long-range version on offer as well, which will boast a bigger 75-82 kWh battery pack offering a range of around 662 km. This particular variant could get a more performance-oriented powertrain which could produce maximum power of 441 bhp and 493 Nm of torque.
As for the design, the new Tesla Model Y will come with connected LED DRL and split headlight setup. It will also get updated connected LED tail lights and sharper overall styling. On the interior side of things, it will get a 15-inch touchscreen infotainment system, wireless charging, premium audio system, and a panoramic sunroof. It will also get Tesla Autopilot, Full Self-Driving (FSD) capabilities, and Tesla Vision features. Pricing is expected to be around Rs 55-65 lakh.
In addition to the Model Y, the company is also gearing up for the launch of the latest generation Model 3 as well. As per the reports, it will also be offered in two variants, namely long-range RWD and long-range AWD variant. Pricing could be in the range of Rs 30-32 lakh.
A little while ago, it was reported that Tesla had asked DLF to secure locations for its dealerships in South Delhi. It will also be setting up its dealership in Mumbai as well.Apart from this, the company, after years of negotiation, was able to convince the Indian government to lower the import duties on its cars, which will be initially brought via the CBU (Completely Built Unit) route.
