‘5 Star-Rated’ Safe Yet Affordable Sedans You Can Buy In India Today

Indian car buyers are now recognizing the importance of safety and are leaning towards safer cars. What’s also increasing in popularity is the sedan segment. Presently, there are four 5-star safety-rated sedans, and if you are in the market for a safe sedan, then you can choose any one of these models, and you’ll be satisfied. Here are the details of each of these 5-star safety-rated sedans in India.
Although it has not been officially launched in India, the fourth-generation Maruti Suzuki Dzire has made headlines for receiving a 5-star safety rating. The official launch of the new Dzire will take place on the 11th of November.
The fourth-generation Dzire has managed to score 31.24 points out of the 34 total points in the adult occupant protection test. On the other hand, it scored 39.20 points out of 42 points in child occupant protection tests.
The crash test report from Global NCAP also highlighted that the new Dzire has a stable body shell. This upcoming sub-compact sedan also boasts a stable footwell area. The 2024 Dzire has become the first-ever Maruti Suzuki model to receive a five-star safety rating from Global NCAP.
The new Dzire will come loaded with safety features, including 6 airbags, ABS with EBD, electronic stability program, 3-point seatbelts for all passengers, ISOFIX child seat anchors, and a 360-degree camera.
The current generation of the Hyundai Verna is also a five-star safety-rated sedan. In the Global NCAP crash tests, the Hyundai Verna scored 28.18 points out of 34 points in the adult occupant protection tests. Meanwhile, it managed to score 42 out of 49 points in child occupant protection tests.
The crash test results highlighted that the Hyundai Verna offers good protection for the head, neck, abdomen, and pelvis. It also offers a stable body shell. The sedan comes equipped with front, side, and curtain airbags, ESC, and ISOFIX mounts. The Hyundai Verna starts at Rs 11 lakh and goes up to Rs 17.48 lakh.
Based on the MQB A0 IN platform, the Volkswagen Virtus was one of the first sedans in India to score a five-star safety rating in Global NCAP crash tests. This sporty sedan managed to score 29.71 out of 34 points in adult occupant protection tests.
On the other hand, in the child occupant protection tests, it scored 42 out of 49 points. Global NCAP, in its assessment, highlighted that the Virtus offered good protection for the head, neck, and chest. It also has a very stable body shell, added Global NCAP. The Virtus currently starts at Rs 11.56 lakh and goes up to Rs 19.41 lakh.
The Skoda Slavia, which is also based on the same MQB A0 IN platform, received a five-star safety rating from Global NCAP. Its score is identical to the Volkswagen Virtus – 29.71 out of 34 points and 42 out of 49 points in adult and child occupant protection tests, respectively.
Skoda offers the Slavia with safety features including 6 airbags, ABS, EDS (Electronic Differential System), three-point seatbelts, a tire pressure monitoring system, and a host of other essential safety equipment. The Slavia starts at Rs 10.69 lakh and goes up to Rs 18.69 lakh.
