5 New 'Family Electric Cars' To Wait For

Electric cars are slowly gaining popularity in the Indian market, and with more brands entering this space, the competition is gradually getting intense. Several Indian and foreign brands are aggressively launching EVs one after the other. Here, we have a list of five such new family electric cars that are expected to be launched in the Indian market soon.
The MG Windsor EV is already available in the market and is performing well. In fact, it is one of MG's best-selling EVs in India. Currently, the 38 kWh battery pack version is available, offering a claimed driving range of 331 km.
This was a concern for many buyers who wanted to use the car for long drives. MG already offers a larger battery variant in the international market, which comes with a 50 kWh battery pack capable of providing a better range. This version offers a claimed driving range of 461 km. After the successful run of the Windsor EV in India, MG is now planning to launch the long-range 50 kWh version in the Indian market.
The next electric SUV that many people are eagerly awaiting is the XEV 7E or the XUV700 Electric. The SUV was first showcased as a concept a few years ago, and several leaked videos and images have revealed the production version. The upcoming electric SUV will feature an XEV 9E-inspired front fascia, while the rest of the car will resemble the XUV700.
The interior of the XEV 7E will be revised and will include premium features such as a triple-screen setup, revamped seats, and more. The electric SUV is expected to be powered by 59 kWh and 79 kWh battery pack options.
Tata recently unveiled their Harrier.ev at the Bharat Mobility Expo this year, and we also got to see it in action at Tata’s plant earlier this month. Tata will be launching the Harrier.ev in the coming months, and soon after, they will introduce the electric version of their flagship SUV, the Safari, in the market.
It will be based on the same platform as the Harrier.ev and will likely generate similar power, torque, and driving range. However, it will be a 7-seater SUV, meaning it can accommodate more passengers.
Kia is also working on an electric MPV. The Carens facelift, expected to launch soon, will be sold alongside the existing version. The Kia Carens Electric will be based on the facelifted version and will feature premium elements, as seen in other Kia models.
The Carens Electric is expected to use the same 51.4 kWh battery pack as the Creta Electric. It is not a born-electric SUV, and its launch is expected later this year.
The last Maruti car on our list is the Maruti YMC. It is an MPV based on the same platform as the eVitara. Currently known by the codename YMC, it is expected to be launched in the market by the end of 2026.
As of now, there is no clarity on the battery pack and driving range of the MPV. However, we expect the specifications to be similar to those of the upcoming Maruti eVitara.
