All New Kia Seltos Hybrid: New Headlamp Design Revealed In Fresh Spyshots
Kia is reportedly working on an all-new Seltos. The upcoming SUV will have a lot to flaunt, including a new hybrid powertrain and major design reworks. The Seol-based carmaker has already begun testing the new Seltos on homeland. A new set of spy pictures shed light on the new headlamp design that’s to be expected.
Going by these images, the headlamps will feature a completely new design. Three vertically-set rectangular lamps can be seen, which look like LED units. These could be the headlamps. It could also be the case that these are mere positioning lamps/ DRLs and the actual headlamps sit in between. Due to the camouflage, getting clarity with the headlamp design or details of the elements inside isn’t easy. Additionally, there are long vertical LED DRL strips on either side as well.
The new SUV will also come with a new grille design and heavily reworked front bumper. Glimpses of these can be seen from under the camo. The grille will likely take inspiration from Kia’s global models, and the bumper will have fresh-looking air dams. The rear design will also see a major reform. It will look boxier than the current model. The tail lamps will be new as well. There could be clear inspirations from the EV5 and other newer KIA cars. Recently, the vehicle was spotted testing in India as well. It suggests that the India-spec could look much like the Korean spec.
Major changes are expected inside the cabin as well. It will have a new design and layout. There will be generous use of upmarket materials and more premium trims. It will likely have a dual-tone interior colourway. The dashboard will have a new multi-layered design, and there will be a two-spoke steering wheel on offer as well.
The Seltos is an important product for Kia. The carmaker manufactures it in countries like India, S. Korea and China. There are KIA models which are produced in Seol only.
The New Seltos Will Get A Hybrid Powertrain
The new Seltos will get an electrified powertrain in addition to the existing engine options. It will get a petrol hybrid based on a 1.6L engine. Currently, the SUV is available with three engines- a 1.5 naturally aspirated petrol, 1.5 turbocharged petrol and 1.5 diesel. The hybrid engine will thus have a slightly higher displacement.
This setup is identical to the one found in global-spec Kia NIRO. It could deliver a combined output of 141 bhp and 265 Nm when launched. It could come with a 6-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. As per rumours, the fuel efficiency of this setup could be 18.1-19.8 kmpl.
The new Seltos will be based on the same platform as the outgoing model- the Hyundai-Kia K2. This is in fact, derived from the PB and GB platforms and is quite flexible. Rumours say that the new vehicle will be slightly longer and wider than the outgoing SUV.
Some reports also say that the new Kia Seltos might even feature an electronic AWD (e-AWD) system. In many international markets, the Seltos already offers AWD.
Seltos EV Coming?
In the coming years, KIA would also bring in an all-electric version of the Carens with the same underpinnings as the Creta EV. The same could also spawn a Seltos EV sometime later. We don’t have any confirmation on this yet.
