All New Kia Seltos Hybrid: New Spyshots Show Interiors
The Seltos has been an important product for Kia. The carmaker is now working on a major generational update for the SUV. The changes are expected to be massive and spread across styling, features, and powertrain choices. The Seol-based manufacturer has lately been testing it in Korea. A new set of spy shots has revealed some key details of the upcoming SUV’s interior.
To start with, the test mule has a lighter cabin colourway compared to the outgoing model. It also seems to have reworked door pads and panels which now look slimmer than before. The inside door handles too are different, and to be honest, look more basic. There are multiple touches of a soothing Orange colour on the inside. You can see these on the seats.
This is a treatment we recently saw on the Syros. If this is the direction that Kia is taking with the larger, more premium SUVs as well, the Seltos could come with different cabin colourways on various trims, as the Syros does. The steering wheel is not seen in these images. However, it could also make a transition to a new design (probably 2-spoke).
Another detail that the new set of pictures reveals is the presence of ambient lighting on the central tunnel. The outgoing model features ambient lighting with selectable colours and themes. But these are not present on the central tunnel/ console. The new vehicle’s longer, better-placed strips would thus deliver a more wholesome experience.
The rear seats get three headrests and seem to have 40:20:40 split. The space management on the new Seltos seems to be smarter than before. The rear door pockets are now larger and deeper. Plus there are several other storage areas for the rear passengers. The rear seat seems to be nearly flat, and it remains to be seen if the production model would offer better under-thigh support.
A notable addition is what looks like a 100W charger that has been integrated into the back side of the front seats. If this actually is a 100W unit, you would be able to charge your Macbooks with it! We also suspect the possibility of finding an HDMI port on the new Seltos!
The test mule keeps every detail of the in-cabin displays concealed. However, we expect it to come with Syros-like Trinity screens- the logic being why not the Seltos if even the Syros can have it! Since the next-generation Seltos would have the new infotainment hardware, there will be wireless CarPlay and Android Auto on offer.
Expected Design Changes
A major restyling is to be expected on the new Seltos. It will have a new set of headlamps. These will have three vertically set rectangular LED units. The DRL design will also be new. The grille will also be redesigned, even though the heavy camouflage doesn’t reveal much of it, in the pictures. The new vehicle will be boxier than the outgoing Seltos and will have a set of new alloy wheels and reworked tail lamps as well. The overall design could draw heavily from the EV5 and other newer KIA models.
Expected Powertrains
In addition to the current powertrain lineup, the new Seltos is also expected to feature a hybrid petrol version as well. It will have a higher displacement than all the non-electrified powertrains and could deliver a combined output of 141 hp and 265 Nm. It will resemble the one on the global-spec Kia NIRO and will likely be mated to a 6-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.
