4 Star And 5 Star Rated Bharat NCAP Cars You Can Buy In India

To promote road safety and help in creating safer cars for India, back in August of last year, the Bharat New Car Assessment (BNCAP) program was launched in India. It came into effect on October 1st and was inaugurated by Nitin Gadkari, the Minister of Road Transport and Highways. Since then, Bharat NCAP has tested a number of vehicles, and here is the list of the vehicles that have scored 4 and 5-star safety ratings in the Bharat NCAP.

Tata Harrier

The first car to be crash-tested by Bharat NCAP was the Tata Harrier. The facelifted iteration of this popular SUV managed to score 30.08 points out of 32 in adult protection. Additionally, it also scored 44.54 out of 49 points in child occupant protection. Overall, it managed to score a perfect 5-star safety rating.

Tata Safari

During the crash testing of the Harrier, its elder sibling, the Safari facelift, was also tested by BNCAP. As it is also based on the same OMEGARC architecture, it scored identical points and a perfect 5-star safety rating. Both of these SUVs come equipped with features such as six airbags, an optional knee airbag, an ADAS suite, and seatbelt reminders for all passengers.

Tata Nexon

Apart from these two larger Tata SUVs, the smaller Nexon sub-compact SUV was also recently tested by Bharat NCAP. Like its Global NCAP test, the Nexon passed the Bharat NCAP test with flying colors. It also managed to score a 5-star safety rating. It scored 29.41 points in adult occupant protection and 43.83 points in child occupant protection.

Tata Nexon.ev

2024 Tata Nexon EV BNCAP crash test

In addition to the Nexon ICE variant, the newly updated Tata Nexon.ev was also tested by Bharat NCAP. This popular electric SUV managed to score 29.86 out of 32 and 44.54 out of 49 in the adult and child occupant protection tests, respectively. The Nexon.ev also comes with six airbags, hill hold assist, ABS, EBD, traction control, and ISOFIX child seat anchors.

Tata Punch.ev

2024 Tata Punch EV BNCAP crash tests

Tata’s newest electric vehicle, the Punch.ev, also managed to score a perfect 5-star safety rating. It scored 31.46 points in adult occupant protection and 45 in child occupant protection tests. The Punch.ev comes with six airbags, ABS, ESC, and three-point seat belts for all passengers as standard.

Tata Curvv

2024 Tata Curvv BNCAP crash test

Keeping Tata Motors’ name high in the safety department, the newly launched Tata Curvv coupe SUV has also managed to score the perfect five-star safety rating in the Bharat NCAP. It has managed to score 29.5 and 43.66 in adult and child occupant protection tests, respectively.

Tata Curvv.ev

2024 Tata Curvv.ev BNCAP crash test

Now, coming to the electric iteration of the Curvv, the Curvv.ev has managed to score 30.8 and 44.83 in adult and child occupant protection tests. The Curvv.ev is marginally safer than its ICE sibling. Both of these coupe SUVs come equipped with six airbags, a Level 2 suite of ADAS, ESP, and a ton of other important safety features.

Citroen Basalt

2024 Citroen Basalt Coupe SUV BNCAP test

The only non-Tata vehicle on this list belongs to the French automaker Citroen, and it is the all-new coupe SUV Basalt. This unique SUV has managed to score a respectable 4-star safety rating in the Bharat NCAP tests. It has managed to score 26.19 out of 32 points in adult protection and 35.90 points out of 49 in child occupant protection tests.

The Basalt comes with safety features such as 6 Airbags including Driver, Front Passenger, 2 Curtain, Driver Side, and Front Passenger Side. It also gets seat belt warning, overspeed warning, speed sensing door lock, and other features.
