Billionaire Harsh Goenka Wants Anand Mahindra To Launch BYD YangWang U8 In India: Here’s Why

The billionaire chairman of RPG Group, Harsh Goenka, has recently made a request to Anand Mahindra, the chairperson of Mahindra Group. In his most recent tweet, sharing a video of the unique SUV BYD YangWang U8, Goenka has asked Mr. Mahindra to launch this SUV in India. For those who may not be aware, the BYD YangWang U8 is a hybrid SUV that boasts more than 1,000 bhp and can be driven on land and water as well.
A video showing the impressive capabilities of the BYD YangWang U8 has been shared on X by Harsh Goenka. In his post, Harsh Goenka has tagged Anand Mahindra and has asked him to introduce this SUV in India. He has mentioned that this is the perfect SUV for India.
He highlighted that this all-terrain, all-weather BYD SUV is perfect for Indian monsoon rivers, crater-sized potholes, and rugged terrains. In his post, he has used #BuiltForIndia. From the video, we can note that this particular SUV is first driven into a pool of water, where it can be seen floating like a boat.
Also, the video shows the BYD YangWang U8’s unique sliding feature. In this, the rear wheels get all the power, which causes it to slide into tight parking spaces. Also, the video shows its unique 360-degree turning feature, where it can make a complete U-turn by standing in one single spot.
At the moment, Anand Mahindra has not responded to Harsh Goenka’s tweet. Most likely, he cannot fulfill Goenka’s request because this vehicle is sold by BYD, and Mahindra Automotive would not be able to create a similar SUV. Presently, BYD only sells the Atto 3 and Seal sedan in India.
As mentioned before, the name of this particular SUV is BYD YangWang U8. It is currently sold in China and a few other international markets. The YangWang U8 is an extremely capable SUV that boasts a similar design to the Land Rover Defender. One of its most unique features is that it comes with a mode called “Yachting.”
It has been designed for use in emergency situations, where it allows the SUV to be driven in water. BYD has mentioned that this feature is recommended for use only up to 30 minutes at a speed of 3 kmph.
When this Yachting mode is activated, the suspension of the vehicle lifts up, the windows close, and the sunroof opens for ventilation. This mode, as stated, has been designed for survival. The YangWang U8 can handle water depths up to 1.4 meters.
The BYD YangWang U8 is a hybrid SUV. It combines a 49.05 kWh battery pack with a 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine. It also gets four electric motors placed on each wheel. In total, this SUV is capable of producing 1,184 bhp of power. The YangWang U8 can sprint from 0-100 in just 3.6 seconds.
As for the range, it can be driven up to 180 km on a single full charge. Meanwhile, with the 75-litre fuel tank capacity, the overall range is 1,000 km. What’s even more impressive is that its battery can be charged from 30 to 80 percent in just 18 minutes. Internationally, the BYD YangWang U8 is priced at $149,000, which is around Rs 1.23 crore.
