Citroen Basalt: Base 7.99 Lakh Variant On Video

Citroen has started deliveries of the Basalt Coupe SUV. Available in three different trims- You, Plus and Max, the Basalt is priced from 7.99 lakh, ex-showroom. The French carmaker has priced this product well. In a recent video shared by Car Duniya, the host explains all key details of the base-spec YOU variant. It explains what the car packs and what it misses out on…
The YOU might not be the most VFM variant of the Basalt, but it makes for a good entry point. The design at large, remains unchanged. The base variant, however, misses out on some design elements like premium trims, body-coloured mirrors, body-coloured rear bumper, premium door handles, skid plates, glossy Black grille, alloy wheels and colour options.
While the top-spec offers a variety of colour options, the YOU variant comes in just two colours- Pure White and Steel Grey. It rides on 16-inch wheels. On the good side, the rear bumper gets reverse parking sensors integrated into it.
On the inside, a lot of differences can be spotted compared to the higher variants. It gets an all-Black cabin with Grey inserts. The gear lever cover and fabric seats get Orange stitches. There is no central locking offered and the key is basic as well. The variant also misses out on height-adjustable driver seats and rear power windows.
The side-view mirrors get manual folding and adjustments. The doors come with room for speakers, but no audio equipment except an antenna is offered! The dashboard can also house a decent Android-based touchscreen. Air conditioning is a manual unit.
The IRVM is a normal unit, without Night/Day function. Vanity mirrors are not provided on the base variant. The instrument cluster is a digital screen that feels extremely basic.
The 470L boot space is an important USP of the Basalt. It remains unchanged on the base spec as well. It, however, doesn’t come with a rear parcel tray. This has to be purchased separately from the dealer. Also missing is a boot lamp.
Possibly in an attempt to keep costs in check, a spare wheel has also gone missing from the entry variant. A puncture repair kit has been provided instead. The rear seat can be folded for additional boot space. Unlike the higher variants, the rear seat here doesn’t get 60:40 split folding function.
The video also shows how spacious the car feels on the inside. The base variant doesn’t get adjustable rear headrests, but there is generous space and ample comfort. Reading lamps and grab handles for the rear occupants are also missing on YOU.
Even on the entry-level variant, the Basalt comes with ESP, ABS, EBD, hill assist and 6 airbags. Safety doesn’t go for a toss just because you chose to pay less for your Basalt.
Also to note here is that the YOU variant has a lower production rate. Now, most variants demand waiting spans of up to a month. This time period could be higher for the base-spec. While Citroen had begun deliveries of other variants soon after the launch, the YOU started reaching its owners only in October. It could thus be slightly difficult for you to spot one of these at the dealerships soon.
In India, the Basalt is priced between 7.99 lakh and 13.57 lakh, ex-showroom. It thus packs ample value and appeal for the average Indian buyer. Customer responses have been heartwarming. The Basalt has become the best-selling Citroen car in India, posting sales of 579 units in the first month.
