Citroën is all set to launch their new made-in-India product, Basalt, in the market. Citroën Basalt will be the first coupe SUV in the affordable segment. The SUV will compete with cars like Tata Curvv, which will hit the market soon. Before the official launch, Basalt has been spotted on the road several times, and now Citroën has released a new promo video of Basalt with famous Indian fashion designer Masaba Gupta.

The video has been released by Brut India on their YouTube channel. We are surprised that Citroën didn’t post this on their official YouTube channel. This is definitely a paid promotion, and towards the end, the video confirms the same. The video starts with Masaba talking about her style and her way of working on designs.

After some time, the person behind the camera asks her to review the design of Citroën Basalt. She was initially surprised and then walked towards the car. Her first reaction was “wow.” The design of the SUV looks cool, and the first thing that captured her attention was the coupe styling. It is quite evident on the Basalt and gives the SUV a distinct character.

We have seen several images of the Basalt online, and by now, we know what the exterior of the SUV looks like. We see some improvements in Basalt when compared to the previous models. The Basalt seen here in the video gets projector LED headlamps, LED DRLs, and a Chevron logo that extends to meet the Y-shaped DRLs.

The front end of the SUV is designed like the C3 Aircross. It is muscular and bulky, which one often expects from an SUV. There are fog lamps and silver-colored faux skid plates. Coming to the side profile, we see the dual-tone alloy wheels, and it looks like Citroën is offering electrically adjustable and folding ORVMs with Basalt (which we appreciate).

The rear of the Basalt gets typical Citroën tail lamps that wrap around the rear fender. We see the skid plate on the rear bumper too. Masaba is then asked to check out the interiors. Surprisingly, Citroën does not show the dashboard or the front row seats of the Basalt. Masaba is seen sitting in the rear seat, where she speaks about the patterns on the seats as well as the center armrest.

The pattern and the shade on the seats look similar to what we have seen in the C3 Aircross SUV. It looks like a mix of fabric and leatherette material. We do not see the dashboard of the SUV in this video.

It is probably because the design is not much different from the existing lineup. We are expecting the same layout as the C3 and C3 Aircross. It remains to be seen if Citroën will offer features like automatic climate control, cruise control, and push-button start/stop. The SUV will get the 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system and digital instrument cluster along with a multi-function steering wheel.

Coming to the engine, it will be powered by a 1.2-liter, 3-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine that is already used in the C3 Aircross. Hopefully, Citroën will be offering the Basalt with both 6-speed manual and 6-speed automatic torque converter options. Citroën will have to be extremely careful with the pricing, especially if they want to compete with Tata’s upcoming Curvv SUV in the segment.
