Citroen Basalt Coupe SUV Officially Unveiled In India

Finally, after months of wait, the French automaker Citroen has unveiled its highly anticipated Basalt Coupe SUV in India. This unique SUV will soon go on sale, and that’s when the price announcement will happen. This is expected to happen a few days from now.
The Basalt is based on the same platform as the C3 AirCross, and the new coupe SUV shares a lot of parts with its mid-sized SUV sibling. However, the wheelbase has been shortened by 20 mm and now measures 2,651 mm. Also, ground clearance has reduced to 180 mm.
From the front, the Citroen Basalt boasts a very butch-looking fascia, which looks premium yet aggressive. It features a similar split headlamp design with the Citroen signature double slat grille that incorporates the Citroen logo. The top portion gets LED DRLs. Meanwhile, the main LED projector headlights are located slightly below.
The center portion of the fascia also boasts massive air dams. There are also four trapezoidal elements on the front that add to the unique design of the Basalt. It also gets a set of fog lamps which have been placed on the lower bumper. There is also a massive silver skid plate, which adds to the premium-ness of the Basalt.
Moving on to the side profile, the Basalt comes equipped with a set of 17-inch alloy wheels with a diamond-cut finish. It also gets chunky side claddings finished in matte black, and it also gets retro flap-style door handles. The main highlight of the side profile is the sloping roofline.
As for the rear end, Citroen has kept the Basalt simple but attractive. Its coupe-like rear end blends in with the chunky rear decklid. It also gets a set of wraparound LED taillights and a chunky rear bumper with black cladding and a silver skid plate. It also gets a shark fin antenna on top as well.
Moving on to the interior, the Citroen Basalt shares its dashboard layout with its sibling, the C3 AirCross. It comes equipped with a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system in the middle. It also gets wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity. Additionally, it also gets a digital driver’s display, wireless charging and automatic climate control.
Citroen is offering the Basalt with two engine choices, a 1.2-liter naturally aspirated petrol engine borrowed from the C3 hatchback, and a 1.2 liter triple cylinder turbo petrol motor from the C3 and C3 AirCross models.
In the Basalt, this motor generates 110 bhp of power and 205 Nm of torque, which is similar to the state of tune on the likes of the C3 and C3 AirCross. As for the transmission, it comes standard with a 6-speed manual gearbox.
However, there is an optional torque converter automatic gearbox as well. Citroen claims an impressive 9.95 second zero to hundred timing for the Basalt, and this indicates that it’s going to be a fun, peppy car.
