Citroën’s next launch in the Indian market is the Basalt SUV. The SUV, with its coupe design, was showcased earlier this year, and since then, we have seen test mules of the production-ready version of the upcoming Basalt several times. This time, we have a new image of the Citroën Basalt SUV, seen in broad daylight, almost undisguised.

The new set of images has surfaced online on various social media platforms. In this new image, we see a white Basalt SUV with partially wrapped doors and fenders. It looks like the manufacturer has started production and is currently conducting the final set of tests. The SUV seen in the image appears to be a higher variant as it comes with alloy wheels.

In the older spy pictures, most of the test mules had steel rims, which hinted that they were lower versions. In terms of design, the Basalt is similar to the other models on sale in India. The Basalt will be the fourth made-in-India product from Citroën, after the C3, eC3, and C3 Aircross SUV.

The front bumper has a muscular design to give it a more SUV-like appearance. Even the side profile of the SUV looks almost the same as the Citroën C3 Aircross. Moving to the rear, you notice the sloping coupe-like design of the roof, which is designed in a way that is unlikely to affect the headroom of the rear seat passengers.

In the previous test mules, the Basalt badge on the tailgate was missing. However, in the latest images, we see the Basalt badge and Citroën branding on the tailgate. The sloping roof meets the rear windscreen, which meets the tailgate with a muscular design. This portion is, in fact, designed like a lip spoiler. The Basalt’s tail light design is also similar to other models in the market.

Citroën has revealed the exterior of the SUV completely to the world; however, we have yet to see the interiors. We expect the interior to look the same as those seen in the C3 and C3 Aircross SUVs, with a 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system, digital instrument cluster, and multi-function steering wheel.

It remains to be seen if Citroën will offer features like automatic climate control, cruise control, push start button, and electric ORVMs with the upcoming Basalt. The Citroën Basalt will be offered with a petrol engine option only. It will be powered by a 1.2-liter, 3-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine that is already used in the C3 Aircross.

In the C3 Aircross, this engine is offered with both a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed automatic transmission. It remains to be seen if the Basalt will get an automatic transmission at the time of launch or if it will be introduced at a later stage. Just like other Citroën products, the Basalt is also expected to come with customization options from the factory.

The upcoming Citroën Basalt will compete with the upcoming SUV coupe Tata Curvv in the segment. Citroën is expected to launch the all-new Basalt next month in August. Hopefully, Citroën will price the SUV competitively so that they have an advantage over other manufacturers.
