Citroen Basalt Base ‘You’ Variant: What’s On Offer In The Rs. 7.99 Lakh Trim

The French automaker Citroën recently took the covers off its latest coupe-SUV, the Basalt. With its launch, the company has managed to shock the country with an introductory price of Rs 7.99 lakh (ex-showroom). Now, you may be wondering what exactly the base “You” variant of this SUV offers. To answer this, here are the details of all the features and options offered with the base trim of the Citroën Basalt coupe-SUV.
Starting with the exterior design of the Citroën Basalt’s base variant, it retains all the unique design elements that are seen on any Citroën model. It features the same chrome-finished grille with Citroën’s logo integrated in the center. However, unlike the higher variants, the You trim comes equipped with halogen headlamps instead of LED projector units.
Additionally, the base variant misses out on fog lamps, which are offered with the more expensive trims. Moving to the side profile, the You variant sports 16-inch steel wheels, but these come without any wheel covers. The door handles and skid plates are blacked out. The unique thing about this trim is that it gets body-colored side claddings.
Also, the turn indicators have been positioned on the front fender rather than integrated into the ORVMs. Additionally, the ORVMs feature a matte black finish. The rear of the vehicle maintains the overall design language but with a blacked-out bumper.
Moving on to the inside, the Citroën Basalt You variant comes with a dual-tone dashboard that combines black and grey upholstery. The company has also added a teal blue trim insert that adds a touch of color to the otherwise monochromatic cabin.
While the interior might seem basic compared to the top-spec Max variant, the base variant comes equipped with a semi-digital instrument console. However, it misses out on the more advanced features available in higher variants.
These include a freestanding touchscreen infotainment system, automatic climate control, and steering-mounted controls. The manual AC system is standard in the You trim. The base trim also gets fixed rear headrests for all three passengers; however, there is an absence of a rear center armrest.
As for the powerplant, the Citroën Basalt You variant gets only a single engine option. It comes powered by a 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine. This engine produces 82 PS of power and 115 Nm of torque. The engine is paired with a five-speed manual transmission.
Apart from this engine option, the higher trims get a more powerful 1.2-litre turbocharged petrol engine. This motor delivers 110 PS of power and up to 205 Nm of torque. The turbocharged variants also come with the option of a six-speed automatic transmission.
As mentioned, the base You variant of the Basalt has been priced at Rs 7.99 lakh (introductory, ex-showroom). The base variant’s pricing positions it as a strong competitor in the compact SUV segment. It will go head-to-head with rivals like the upcoming Tata Curvv, Hyundai Creta, Maruti Grand Vitara, Skoda Kushaq, Kia Seltos, and Honda Elevate.
