Affordable Electric Cars That Offer Lifetime Battery Warranty In India: Full List!

Electric vehicle (EV) sales have lately been on the rise. Buyers are often sceptical about the battery health and reliability of their electric vehicles. Manufacturers started addressing these fears by offering warranty coverages which are sizeably more than what comes on an Internal Combustion Engine (ICE) vehicle. Most EV makers used to offer 8 years or 1.6 lakh kilometres of coverage. This reassured potential buyers and led to more conversions. The latest trend has been of lifetime battery warranties. You hear that right. Many sub-50 lakh electric vehicles now come with lifetime warranties on their battery packs. Here are seven such examples.
The Nexon.EV is now priced from Rs 12.49 Lakh, ex-showroom. Tata sells the Nexon with two battery pack choices- 30 kWh and 45 kWh. The 45 kWh variants are now covered under a standard lifetime warranty. The Nexon.EV 45's powertrain output stands at 143 hp and 215 Nm of torque.
The Curvv.EV is sold with two battery pack options- 45 kWh and 55 kWh.The powertrain with the smaller battery pack has an output of 148 hp and 215Nm, while that with the larger unit produces 165hp and 215Nm. Both are now covered under the new lifetime warranty. Even existing owners of the Curvv.EV and Nexon EV 45 will qualify for this.
The BE6 enjoys stellar acceptance in India, and offers the choice of two battery packs- 59 kWh and 79 kWh. The powertrain outputs go up to 304 hp and 380 Nm of torque. Both battery packs are sourced from BYD and come with lifetime warranties.
The XEV 9e is an electric coupe SUV based on the XUV 700. It is built on the same INGLO platform as the BE6 and comes with the same battery options- 59 kWh and 79 kWh. All variants of the XEV now get lifetime warranty coverage.
Tata Motors made big headlines with the launch of the Harrier EV. It is a very significant product for the Indian carmaker, and has thus been packaged well. To give the Harrier.EV the market entry it deserves, Tata announced lifetime warranties on it. The battery choices on the all-electric Harrier are 65 kWh and 75 kWh. Both these are now covered lifetime warranties.
MG Motor India announced lifetime warranty on its models like the Windsor EV and the Comet. The Windsor now has a wide variant lineup. The regular Windsor EV has a rather modest 38 kWh battery pack while the Windsor Pro houses a 52.9 kWh unit. A lifetime warranty comes standard on the Pro variant.
MG Comet is a tiny electric hatchback which is particularly popular in urban India. It comes with a 17.3 kWh battery pack and an electric motor that can produce 42 PS and 110 Nm. It gets a rear wheel drive (RWD) layout. It was in March that MG announced lifetime warranty on the Comet as well.
While a 'lifetime warranty' could give potential EV buyers a major confidence boost, it needs to be defined clearly for better understanding. The 'lifetime' here refers to the vehicle's lifetime, which as the law says, is 15 years. This is in fact, the period a vehicle is registered for. There will, however, be no kilometre cap.
Most of these carmakers also state that the lifetime warranties will only apply to the EV's first owner. Subsequent owners will see notable cuts in coverage.
