With the rising number of vehicles, parking has become a major issue in most Indian cities. While authorities are doing their best to solve this issue, it still persists. Goa, which is a popular tourist destination in India, also faces this problem, and the state government has now issued a new notification.

As per reports, Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant has issued a stern warning to vehicle owners in the state. The minister has asked people not to park cars on the roadside. If a vehicle is found parked at the same spot for over 8 days, it will be scrapped.

The minister stated that if a car is found parked on the roadside, a notice will be sent to the address of the registered owner. If the owner fails to move the vehicle from the spot within 8 days, authorities will take action. The minister said that the original owner of the vehicle will no longer be able to claim it thereafter. The vehicle will be sent directly for scrapping.

Minister Pramod Sawant made this announcement during the inauguration of the traffic police cell at Fatorda. He also added that the government and authorities are taking major traffic management measures to improve road safety in the state.

The Chief Minister said that over 250 abandoned vehicles have already been seized in Panaji. He mentioned that people are often seen parking their vehicles on wide roads. He also noted that several roadside garages contribute to this issue. Apart from illegally parked or abandoned vehicles, the police have also seized 550 private vehicles operating illegally as rentals.

The authorities have noted down the details of the seized vehicles, and they have been sent to the transport department for registration certificate cancellation. The reason why the Chief Minister has issued such a stern warning is that these illegally parked vehicles often cause problems and congestion on the roads.

Road expansion work is currently underway in many parts of Goa. This, along with the illegally parked vehicles on the roadside, will only increase problems for the common man. It would also affect the image of the state, as Goa is considered the party capital of India and attracts many tourists. The minister also announced an elevated overbridge proposal at the Verna junction, following a joint inspection by the PWD and traffic authorities, to improve the flow of traffic.

These parked vehicles also pose a threat to other road users and can cause accidents. Speaking at the inauguration, Minister Pramod Sawant said that over 70% of Goa’s 365 annual accident deaths involved victims who were not at fault and that many of these accidents were caused by rental cars and bikes. The state witnesses one to two accidental deaths daily, with pedestrians accounting for 50% of fatalities.

Sawant also spoke about improving the public transport infrastructure in the state. The government's plans include expanding the Mhaji Bus network, deploying KTC buses on internal roads, and introducing services connecting industrial estates, villages, and major towns. The government also plans to install smart traffic signals with integrated CCTV cameras to detect traffic violations.
