In the Delhi NCR region, drainage is a major issue, and we have seen several incidents in the last couple of months where roads and housing societies in Delhi and nearby areas have been flooded due to poor infrastructure. This happens every year, yet authorities fail to take necessary action. A couple of days ago, Gurugram, which is also part of the Delhi NCR region and a metro city, witnessed heavy rainfall, resulting in many waterlogged roads. A Gurugram resident has now posted a video showing how he lost his expensive cars to the rain this time.

The video has been shared by a user on X. The car owner, who lives in Gurugram, also known as Gurgaon, resides in the Sector 57 area. He mentions that his area experienced almost an hour of rain, and within that time, the whole area around his house was flooded. The drains were clogged, causing water to enter his house as well.

In the video, we see a BMW M340i parked on the porch of his house. The car was completely submerged, with electrical systems malfunctioning, evidenced by the wipers working on their own. The grille, headlamps, and wheels of the car were completely underwater. There is no doubt that water has entered the cabin.

The video then shows a Mercedes-Benz C-Class sedan parked outside the house, which appears to be the W204 version of the sedan. This luxury car also belongs to the same person as the BMW. Just like the BMW, the Mercedes is also underwater. In front of the Mercedes is a Hyundai i20 N Line hatchback, which has also been completely destroyed.

BMW, Mercedes & i20 destroyed

The owner mentions in the video that all his cars were destroyed in the rain, leaving him stranded. He has no way to get out as he is surrounded by water. The water has destroyed his property as well as his cars. He says in the video that he tried to reach out to the authorities, but none have responded.

The video has been posted on social media with the caption, “World-class infrastructure. This person lives in a posh area, owns a BMW M340i, Mercedes C-Class, probably pays the highest amount of tax, and this is what he gets in return. We are doomed!!”

The video shows that all his surroundings are affected by the rain. The authorities should have been prepared by now. This is something that happens every year, yet they fail to find a solution. Most of the drains in the Delhi NCR region are clogged with plastic waste. The authorities do not prepare the drains for the monsoon. Desilting and other measures are not taken on time.

Delhi experienced one of the heaviest rainfalls in the last 36 years last month. The authorities were not prepared for this situation, leading to waterlogging in many parts of the city. If you are driving during the monsoon season, there are a few things you should keep in mind.

Never drive through waterlogged roads. Maintain a low speed as visibility is low during this time. If your vehicle gets stalled, always check if the water level is too high or if it is covering the exhaust and air intake of your vehicle before restarting. Only get out if it is absolutely unavoidable.
