Hero Honda or Hero MotoCorp as we know it now is currently one of the largest two-wheeler manufacturers in the world. The two-wheeler brand excels at making commuter segment bikes as well as premium motorcycles. They have several motorcycles in their lineup. Growing up, we have seen ads of many of these motorcycles on television. In some of these ads, popular actors from Bollywood even acted in them. Here we have a video where actor Salman Khan is seen riding a Hero Honda CD100 in an advertisement that was released back in 1985.

The video has been shared by Guruprasad Gp on their YouTube channel. The advertisement was originally released in 1985 but the same appeared on YouTube only 6 years ago. The video is actually a compilation of not one but three advertisements that were released during that time. The main aim of the first advertisement in this video is to show the fuel efficiency. When the first video starts, young Salman Khan and another actor are seen on two different CD100 motorcycles. The video shows the actors riding the bike with a milestone showing Delhi 400 kms away. When both actors reached Delhi, the bike still had fuel left in it.

In the second advertisement, the manufacturer wanted to highlight the style quotient of the bike. For a bike that was released back in the 80s, the bike was stylish. In the ad, both actors stop the bike in front of two girls and show off. They also sing praises of the Hero Honda CD100 to please the girls. They eventually succeed in their mission and ride away with the girls.

The third commercial was actually released in the market to show that there was no other bike in the market for CD100 to compete with. The same actors in the other two commercials are seen riding the bike near Delhi’s Rashtrapati Bhavan area. The motorcycle was actually marketed as a complete package where the bike was stylish, easy to handle, and extremely fuel-efficient.

Salman Khan in CD100 Ad

Chances of you not hearing about CD100 are pretty low. This model plays a very crucial role in the Indian automotive history. One of the main reasons behind its popularity back then was the highly fuel-efficient engine. As of now, we don’t have any information related to the certified fuel economy of the motorcycle; however, many people or customers who bought this motorcycle claimed that the bike returned them around 80 kmpl. When launched, it was one of the most affordable bikes on sale in India. Many preferred this bike over the Rajdoot and Royal Enfield as it was extremely lightweight at 116 kg.

Hero was so confident about this bike that they launched it with a slogan, “Fill it, Shut it & Forget it”. As the name suggests, the motorcycle is powered by a 97 cc, 4-stroke, SOHC, single-cylinder petrol engine. The engine generated 7.5 Bhp and 7.2 Nm of peak torque. The engine was mated to a 4-speed gearbox. The motorcycle was available in the market till 2004. Hero also had other iconic models like Splendor which is still in production.
