Currently, no mid-sized SUV in the Indian market is sold with a CNG powertrain. Recently, Honda introduced a new program where customers can get their Honda City, Amaze or Elevate fitted with CNG. Today, with the help of a YouTube video we will talk about the Honda Elevate CNG.

Watch on YouTube

The car is shown in a YouTube video uploaded on Auto One Official channel. The host first answers some basic questions. He mentions that the customer will have to pay an additional sum of Rs. 75,000 for CNG installation and it will be done by Honda dealerships. This is an important point as the cars are not coming with factory fitted CNG.

He further adds that this addition, if done from the showroom will not void the warranty of the car. For this scheme, Honda has partnered with Levato to install and provide services related to CNG kits in their vehicles. The host adds that all the manufacturers use Lovato branded CNG kits.

The CNG kit is available with all the trims of all the Honda cars which include the Amaze compact sedan, City sedan and the Elevate compact SUV. The host pops the bonnet of the Elevate to show us the CNG fitment. It can be observed that the fitting is quite neat and it does not cause any mess in the engine bay.

Boot space is a major concern in CNG cars as a lot of space is taken up by the CNG cylinder. The host shows us the boot space of the Honda Elevate after the installation of CNG cylinder. The fitment is done in such a way that the spare wheel can be easily accessed. Furthermore, the cylinder occupies minimal space which means that the boot is still pretty much useful.

The host further adds that it takes about four hours for the installation of CNG kit and the RC process is handled by the dealership only. A button has to be installed in the cabin for the CNG kit.

This button can be used to switch between petrol and CNG and it also shows the CNG capacity in tank. This button is installed in place of a dummy button next to the steering wheel which ensures that it can be easily accessed.

Now, let’s talk about the drive review of the Elevate with CNG. The video also highlights that the CNG has to be filled from the bonnet itself. The car shown in the video is the top spec Elevate with a manual transmission.

The host starts the car on petrol and after 15 seconds it automatically shifts to CNG. He adds that minor power drop is observed which happens in all the CNG cars. He mentions that the overall driving experience is maintained and the power drop does not cause any issue. A major plus point of CNG over petrol is its fuel efficiency and the increased fuel efficiency covers up for the power drop.
