Upcoming Hyundai Creta EV: What It Could Look Like

It is no secret that Hyundai is working on an all-electric Creta. A sizeable buzz surrounds the Creta EV and its possible design. We know that the production spec would be based on the current-gen Creta (ICE). Using ICE models as bases for electric vehicles is a common practice among manufacturers. It saves them sizeable chunks in R&D and design costs. The downside, however, is that people get to predict or make assumptions about how the final product would look like.
A recent render by a popular automotive artist completely reimagines the Creta EV, drawing it closer to the all-electric Kona on design grounds. Imagined and shared by SRK Designs on their YouTube channel, this Creta EV rendering looks butch and appealing.
The first thing that strikes our eye, is the strong resemblance it has with the Kona EV. The rendering gets sleek DRLs and narrow headlamps. These sit on the bonnet, unlike the bumper-mounted units on the ICE Creta. There is also a closed-off EV grille. To further enhance the vehicle’s stance, there are multiple sporty Black trims in the design. The bonnet also gets prominent contours. Not many electric SUVs look butch. However, the artist here has taken the liberty to imagine this EV in all its ruggedness.
The concept also has flush-fitting front door handles and C-pillar-mounted handles for the rear doors. The wheel arches are quite chunky and resemble those on the Kona with their Black side cladding. The rendering gets dual-tone machined alloys, roof rails, and a rear roof spoiler. The concept gets LED wraparound taillamps that look exceptionally good.
Hyundai has lately been testing the all-electric Creta. Though details of the EV are scarce at the moment, we expect it to stand close to the ICE Creta (especially the N Line) in design (with distinctive details) and feature a Kona-borrowed electric powertrain. It could come with a 45 kWh battery pack delivering a range of up to 450 km. The powertrain could be able to churn out 138 hp and 255 Nm.
Key design highlights on the Creta EV would include LED DRLs, windmill-shaped alloy wheels and good-looking tail lamps. The interior will have more features and a better design than the ICE version. Expect the likes of a new steering wheel design (mostly a three-spoke layout like the one on the Kona EV facelift), a new digital instrument cluster, a completely overhauled dashboard, touch-based controls, panoramic sunroof, 360-degree camera, and advanced dual screens. There could also be level 2 ADAS on offer on the EV.
Hyundai is expected to launch the production-spec Creta EV in India in early 2025. Prices could start around 20 lakh, ex-showroom. Once launched, it will compete with the likes of MG ZS EV, Tata Nexon EV, Mahindra XUV 400, Tata Curvv EV and even the BYD Atto 3 to some extent. The competition in this segment is about to get stronger, as Maruti will launch the production form of eVX in the coming years. Toyota could also come up with their own iteration of the same.
The upcoming EV will be able to benefit from the massive acceptance of the Creta nameplate in the country. Though it will be based on a modified ICE platform, Hyundai has plans of transitioning completely to BEV platforms in the coming years.
