Hyundai Creta holds the crown of the C-SUV segment. The footfalls and competition in this space are currently on the rise. Recent leaks suggest that Hyundai could soon introduce a new special edition based on the Creta. Homologation documents of this vehicle were recently leaked, revealing the name to be Creta SE. The SE in its name could stand for Sports Edition or Special Edition. While we cannot be certain about the actual launch timeline, it could happen during the festive season.

Hyundai Creta SE: What Do We Know About it?

If we are to talk across genres, the Creta is the third best-selling car in India. The upcoming special edition will need to have strong USPs to live up to the moniker’s popularity and grow it further. A market launch close to the festive season will surely give it an upper hand in sales.

Leaks confirm that the Hyundai Creta SE has been homologated and could go on sale any moment. A lot of uncertainty surrounds this product. All we have, for now, is the name – which again, could be internal! We don’t know what changes are to be expected on the vehicle, or what other possible expansions could the ‘SE’ part have. What we do know, is that the special edition will only be available on the S (O) and SX (O) trims.

The Creta SE will have four powertrain combinations to choose from: 1.5L MPi petrol MT, 1.5 MPi Petrol CVT, 1.5 diesel MT and 1.5 diesel AT. The naturally aspirated petrol powertrain generates 113 bhp 144 Nm, while the diesel produces 113 bhp, 250 Nm.

The SE will not be available with the 1.5L TGDi turbo-petrol engine. The Creta N Line already has this powertrain. The power and torque outputs of the TGDi engine are 160 hp and 253 Nm respectively. The N Line has clear visual differentiations from the regular Creta. It looks sportier and packs more aesthetic appeal. It could be the case that the SE could feature a similar sporty design. These again, are mere assumptions, and we have very little clarity on what the changes are.

Making things even more unclear, Hyundai has chosen to remain silent about the SE. Usually, the carmaker would tease us with images and videos close to launch. But nothing about the SE has yet surfaced.

Reports say that the Creta SE could come with a new interior theme, body decals, new interior highlights and trims, along with the addition of a handful of features. It is expected to come with a dash camera among others.

Hyundai Creta Is A Hot Cake!

In the C-SUV sales chart for August 2024, Hyundai Creta maintained its dominance by securing the top spot with an impressive 16,762 units sold. The Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara ranked second with 9,021 units sold. The Grand Vitara, however, has a Toyota sibling- the Urban Cruiser Hyryder. Together, these put up a strong fight against the Creta. The combined sales of these amounted to 15,555 units, quite close to the Korean’s.

Another strong opponent is the Kia Seltos- essentially the Kia version of Creta. With the same set of powertrain options, it is in high demand as well. In addition to these, the Creta also faces competition from the recently launched petrol and diesel versions of the Tata Curvv coupe SUV. Even though it belongs to a completely different segment, there is some amount of overlapping in pricing and cabin experience.
