Hyundai is a brand that gained popularity among Indian customers by offering premium products at affordable prices. They are also known for bringing new technologies to cars. As per the reports surfacing online, it looks like Hyundai is now working not just on new models, but on an all-new engine and not just any engine, but a turbocharged petrol unit which is actually compatible with strong hybrid technology.

From the details currently available online, it appears Hyundai India will be offering this engine with the next-generation Venue, which is expected to launch in the market sometime next year. The upcoming engine from Hyundai is going to be a 1.2-litre, 4-cylinder, turbocharged engine. This engine is specifically being developed for the Indian market and is likely to be manufactured locally.

One of the reasons Hyundai has started working on this new engine is the implementation of stricter emission norms. The turbocharged engine will not only be used in the regular petrol models but will also be utilised in their upcoming strong hybrid version. Hyundai doesn’t currently have any strong hybrid engine in their Indian line-up, and they plan to introduce this technology in the affordable segment to gain an advantage over competitors.

This engine is not just about power, but also about fuel efficiency. As we all know, smart hybrid engines are known for their performance and efficiency. Since Hyundai is planning to manufacture this engine in India, they will be able to keep costs under control and price the models aggressively.

They will not only offer this engine for Indian models but might also export it to other markets. We expect to see this engine first in a crossover currently referred to by the internal codename BC4i. This is likely to be launched globally as the next-gen Bayon by the end of 2026.

Apart from the Bayon, this engine will also be introduced in the next-generation Venue, i20, and Hyundai Creta. With strong hybrid engines being introduced in the affordable segment, Hyundai is likely to gain an advantage, and in the long run, more models could be added to this list.

This engine will be compliant with the upcoming BS7 emission norms, and it will also come with a DCT for the regular petrol version and an eCVT gearbox for the strong hybrid variant. This engine will compete with the Suzuki Z12E series engine, which is expected to get strong hybrid tech soon.

Once this technology is introduced in the market, Kia, which is also part of the Hyundai Motor Group, will likely start offering this engine in their models. We’ve already seen this trend in models like the Venue, Sonet, and Creta, which are currently on sale in our market.

As of now, we don’t have any information about the power and torque figures that this engine will produce, but we hope to get more details in the coming months.
