What After The Creta Electric? Hyundai’s EV Game Plan Detailed!

Hyundai India will launch the highly anticipated Creta Electric later this week. It will be the Korean carmaker’s first mass-market EV for India. Many might say that Hyundai is a bit late to the EV game ( which they actually are!), but they seem to have devised promising strategies for an EV onslaught. We now have a clue about what EVs to expect from Hyundai India, after the Creta Electric…
Hyundai plans to launch three new all-electric products after the Creta EV. All of these would be mass-market products. In fact, the Creta EV will be the most premium of the four. The manufacturer will tap into the high-volume electric segments like compact SUVs and hatchbacks with future launches. These will offer a mix of performance, affordability, and advanced features and will help Hyundai capture a significant share of the market. There will also be a strong focus on affordability and localization.
Let’s now take a look at the EVs in the pipeline…
When launched, the Inster EV will become one of the most affordable electric SUVs from Hyundai in India. We expect this vehicle to be out in late 2026. Internally called the HE1i, the vehicle will be based on the E-GMP (K) platform. The production model will likely offer two NMC battery packs- 42Kwh and 49kWh. The smaller unit will deliver a range of about 300 km per charge while the larger will deliver 355km.
The Inster EV will get features like a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment unit, wireless charger, a single-pane sunroof, ADAS, and a 360-degree surround-view camera. In design, the India-spec would borrow a lot from the one sold abroad. It will be larger than the Casper. When launched, the Inster EV will compete with the likes of Citroen eC3 and Tata Punch EV in the Indian market.
The Venue is a hot-selling model in the Indian market. The sub-4 meter SUV is loved for being feature-packed and comfortable. When launched, Venue Electric will go head-to-head with the likes of Tata Nexon EV and Mahindra XUV400. Hyundai will launch the next-generation Venue this year. The EV will be based on the new-gen SUV. Fresh styling, more technology, and features are to be expected.
Like Creta Electric, the Venue EV will also use NMC battery packs and deliver likeable range figures. There will be a high focus on practicality and affordability. The vehicle will cater to urban dwellers. We expect the electric Venue to launch by 2027.
The Grand i10 NIOS is a popular choice among urban buyers. Hyundai is readying an all-electric version of the hatchback. It will be targetted at budget-conscious buyers. Hyundai will give the i10 NIOS a generational update sometime in 2027. The EV will be based on the new-gen car. It could also come with NMC battery packs, more details of which are unknown at the moment.
In the luxury/premium segment, the IONIQ 5 is expected to get a major facelift soon. The new model will likely make its debut at the Bharat Mobility Expo 2025. It will feature revised styling (revised grille, new bumpers, and new alloy wheels), get more features and come with a bigger 84 kWh battery pack. The range could be around 631 km per charge. Mechanically, the new IONIQ 5 will get improved dampers, additional reinforcements, and better sound insulation.
The carmaker will have a strong focus on local assembly and sourcing with all its future EVs. Going forward, even the cell manufacturing, powertrain and power electronics will be localised. Hyundai will also expand its EV portfolio to more body styles, and not just stick to SUVs alone. Both dedicated EVs and derived EV (EVs based on existing ICE models) are on the cards.
