Hyundai Exter CNG With Dual CNG Tank Launched in India at Rs 8.5 Lakh

In order to compete with the Tata Punch iCNG, the South Korean automaker Hyundai Motor India has launched the Exter Hy-CNG Duo in the country. This all-new model has been introduced with a new dual CNG tank kit, which sits underneath the rear boot. Much like Tata’s iCNG twin-cylinder technology, this duo cylinder kit also helps in increasing the boot space in the rear. The new model has been launched with a starting price of Rs 8.5 lakh and goes up to Rs 9.38 lakh.
The main highlight of the Hyundai Exter Hy-CNG Duo is its new dual-cylinder CNG system. Unlike traditional single-cylinder setups, the dual-cylinder technology provides a more efficient way of fitting CNG cylinders in cars. It gets two smaller cylinders located underneath the rear boot. This leaves a lot of room in the boot, which can be used to carry luggage.
This system also comes equipped with an integrated Electronic Control Unit (ECU). This helps in ensuring a smooth switch between petrol and CNG modes. It has been stated by the company that along with this dual-cylinder Exter, the company will also be offering the already on sale single-cylinder Exter models as well.
As for the powerplant of the Exter Hy-CNG Duo, it continues to be powered by the time-tested 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine. This engine comes paired with a five-speed manual gearbox. It can produce a maximum power output of 68 bhp and a torque of 95.2 Nm when running on CNG.
Apart from this, one of the main highlights of the new Exter Hy-CNG Duo is that it offers an impressive fuel efficiency of 27.1 km/kg. This has been tested by ARAI. Additionally, it also gets a 60-litre tank capacity.
Hyundai has launched this new Hy-CNG Duo model in three different variants. The first is the base variant, S, which is available at Rs 8.5 lakh. Next up, there is the mid-spec SX variant, priced at Rs 9.23 lakh.
Lastly, the company is also offering this model in the top-of-the-line SX Knight Edition, featuring additional styling elements. This variant has been priced at Rs 9.38 lakh. Apart from these dual-cylinder models, the Exter CNG single-tank variant starts at Rs 8.43 lakh.
Apart from the addition of the dual-cylinder technology, no changes have been made to the exterior and interior of the Exter Hy-CNG Duo. It still comes packed with a host of features. On the outside, it still gets the split headlamp setup, H-shaped LED daytime running lights (DRLs), and LED taillights.
On the inside, it gets automatic climate control, an electric sunroof, and an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system. For safety, it gets six airbags, a Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS), Electronic Stability Control (ESC), Hill-Start Assist Control, and a dashcam in the top-spec variants.
