Seeing a crazy demand for sunroofs in the Indian market, carmakers are pushing the feature in lower variants. Hyundai has jumped into the trend with their Venue sub compact SUV. A new trim has been introduced in the Venue lineup which makes sunroof more accessible with a starting price of just Rs. 9.36 lakhs. For reference, the price of the sub compact SUV starts at Rs. 7.94 lakh.

This new trim is named S Plus and the main motive of the brand behind this launch is to boost the sales of the car by attracting people with a hot selling feature. In the month of July 2024 Hyundai Venue sold close to 9000 units which translates to a market share of 8.65%.

In the Indian market, the Venue competes with Tata Nexon, Maruti Suzuki Brezza, Kia Sonet, Mahindra XUV3XO, Nissan Magnite and Renault Kiger. All the competitors of the Venue except Nissan Magnite and Renault Kiger offer a single pane sunroof while the XUV 3XO is offered with a panoramic sunroof.

This new trim is positioned above the S and below the S (O) trims. The S Plus trim replaces the S (O) Plus in being the most affordable sunroof variant of the Hyundai Venue. The S Plus trim is priced Rs. 25,000 more than the S and Rs. 64,000 less than the newly introduced S (O) Plus trim. The price of the Venue starts at Rs. 7.94 lakh and goes up to Rs. 13.48 lakh. Now, let’s talk about what this variant offers except a sunroof.

The S Plus trim is not only about sunroof, it offers a well rounded package. The feature list includes a digital cluster with TFT multi info display (MID), an 8-inch touch screen infotainment screen with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay and many more.

It does not lack in terms of basic features as well, the list includes rear AC vents, roof rails, six airbags, tire pressure monitoring system (TPMS), auto headlights, electronic stability control (ESC), hill start assist among others.

A disappointing bit about this trim is that it only gets a single engine option which is paired with a single transmission option. The engine is a 1.2 litre four cylinder Kappa petrol naturally aspirated motor that produces 82 PS of power and 114 Nm of torque.

The transmission option with this engine is a 5 speed manual. There is no automatic option in the S plus trim. The sportier 1 liter three cylinder turbo petrol engines and the 1.5 liter diesel engine are missing in this trim.

The 1 liter-3 cylinder turbo petrol engine of the venue, also available on the N-Line trim, makes 120 PS-170 Nm. 6 speed manual and 7 speed twin clutch automatic gearboxes are on offer.

The diesel motor is 1.5 liter-4 cylinder unit with 115 PS-250 Nm on tap. The ultra smooth diesel motor gets a 6 speed manual gearbox as standard, and is known to be a perky performer. The Hyundai Venue is one of the most popular and old contender in the sub compact SUV. This will supposedly further solidify the demand for the Venue.
