In Images: A Closer Look At Ratan Tata’s Land Rover Freelander2 Luxury SUV

Ratan Tata is a personality who needs no introduction. The former Tata Sons chairman is probably one of those people who has no haters. The popular industrialist and philanthropist owns a variety of cars in his garage. He has been spotted driving some of these on Mumbai roads in the past. Ratan Tata owns humble cars like the custom-built Nano EV to the expensive Mercedes-Benz S-Class. Among the variety of cars he owns, there is a Land Rover Freelander 2 SUV. A set of images has now surfaced online where Ratan Tata’s Land Rover Freelander 2 is seen up close.
The images of Ratan Tata’s Land Rover have been shared by Namaste Car on their Facebook page. The grey-colored Land Rover Freelander 2 SUV seen here is a 2009 model and it still looks brand new. This is not the first time Ratan Tata has been spotted in this luxury SUV. However, this might be one of those times when we get to see a closer look at the SUV. The SUV looks well-maintained, and there are no dents or scratches on it.
Finding a car without dents or scratches in a metro city is actually rare. This shows how much Mr. Tata takes care of his cars. This is not just the case with the Land Rover, but all his vehicles are given the same amount of care and attention.
Coming back to the SUV, the Land Rover Freelander is said to have been bought by Mr. Tata after the company acquired Land Rover and Jaguar from Ford Motor Company.
We ran the registration number online, and it turns out that Ratan Tata bought this SUV in 2009, matching the whole story of him buying the SUV after Tata Group acquired Jaguar & Land Rover.

The SUV is finished in Orkney grey, and in the images that are already available online, we can see the custom red interiors of the SUV. The Land Rover Freelander 2 was available in the Indian market with a 2.2-liter engine that generates 148 bhp and 420 Nm of peak torque.
As this is a luxury SUV, the Freelander is equipped with several premium features. It comes with premium leather upholstery, multi-zone climate control, electrically adjustable seats, an electric sunroof, a company-fitted infotainment screen, reverse parking camera, sensors, and so on. Many of these features are now offered in lower-segment cars; however, for an SUV that is 14 years old, these were premium features.
Other than the Freelander 2, Ratan Tata owns a variety of other cars in his garage. He is an automobile enthusiast with a soft corner for convertible cars. He owns cars like Ferrari California, Cadillac XLR convertible, custom-built Tata Nano EV, Tata Nexon diesel, Honda Civic, Mercedes-Benz 500 SL, Mercedes-Benz W124, Chrysler Sebring, Tata Indigo Marina, Mercedes-Benz S-Class, and several vintage cars.
A car like the Land Rover Freelander 2 had a starting price of Rs 37.01 lakh, ex-showroom back in 2009. The price of the top-end model was around Rs 42.01 lakh, ex-showroom. The Freelander 2 model was replaced by Land Rover with Discovery Sport in 2015.
