The stock Maruti Suzuki Jimny is powered by a 1.5-litre four cylinder naturally aspirated petrol engine that produces 105 PS of peak power and 135 Nm of peak torque. If you feel like your Jimny is underpowered, we have got the perfect solution for you. Today, we will cover a lifted Maruti Suzuki Jimny which has been fitted with a turbocharger.

Watch on YouTube

The car is shown in a YouTube video uploaded by B Choww. The YouTuber claims that this is the first turbocharged Jimny in India. The car is built by Braap Speed Shop and Garage 82 in Delhi.

The video starts with the host showing three cars which are a stock Jimny, the turbocharged Jimny and the original Gypsy. Talking about the power figures, the host adds that this modified Jimny produces 155 horsepower and 220 Nm of torque which is significantly more than the stock figures.

The host mentions that the car is fitted with a full AVO turbo kit. He pops the hood of the car to show us what parts are included in the kit. Firstly, he shows the main component of the turbo kit which is the turbo itself. The turbo is connected to the AVO filter through stainless steel piping, both of which are the part of the kit.

A lot of other plumbing is required in the engine bay for turbo charging the car, all of which are provided with the kit itself. Additionally, this turbo kit includes a beautiful intercooler. The host mentions that the intercooler is currently exposed but it will be covered by a grille for the added protection.

Along with the kit, the car is also running an AVO remap. As all the performance mods are of the same brand, there exists a very less chance of any sort of failure. A Tanabe branded strut brace is also added in the engine bay. The downpipe decat is custom built by the people at Garage 82 and Braap Speed Shop.

The tires are upgraded to all terrain Apollo Aptera with the profile of 225/70/R15. Apart from these changes, this built is quite simple.

Leaving aside the performance mods, the car is also loaded with cosmetic changes which include custom graphics and aftermarket fog lights.

The Maruti Suzuki Jimny is a popular off-roader globally. The car was launched in India on June, 2023 seeing the immense popularity of the Mahindra Thar. However, the Jimny did not perform as well as the Mahindra Thar due to it being overpriced, relatively speaking.

As Maruti has cut down on the prices and offered discounts on the Jimny, the sales numbers have slowly started to pick up. The price of the Jimny starts at Rs. 12.74 lakh and goes up to Rs. 14.95 lakh.

The 4X4 SUV is currently available with discounts of up to Rs. 2.5 lakh, making it great value-for-money at the lower prices. However, these offers may vary from dealer to dealer. Please contact your nearest NEXA dealership for exact details on the discounts.

Maruti Jimny’s sales in India have been disappointing – after an initial flood of orders, the demand dried up pretty soon. While demand for the 4×4 and 4×2 versions of the Mahindra Thar remains strong. The experience of the Jimny proves that true off-road capability perhaps does not sell well in India. We want road presence and outright power – even if we do not need it!

It is also a lesson to other car makers not to take car enthusiasts too seriously – true enthusiasts are few in number, and once that pent up demand is exhausted, enthusiast-focused cars are not likely to sell.
