India's electric vehicle market is gearing up for its busiest years yet. With major carmakers lining up a range of affordable EVs, buyers can expect more options, improved tech, and competitive pricing across body styles, from compact SUVs to spacious MPVs. What makes this wave especially significant is that these aren't niche or experimental models. They're well-thought-out offerings tailored to local driving needs, family sizes, and budgets.

Below, we explore the most anticipated affordable EVs expected to launch in India between mid-2025 and 2026, each of them bringing something unique to the table.

Tata’s New-Gen Contenders: Harrier EV, and Sierra EV

Tata Motors is arguably leading the EV transition, and their 2025–26 line-up confirms this dominance. Two key models are in the spotlight.

The Tata Harrier EV, set to launch on 3 June 2025, builds on the trusted Harrier SUV’s architecture but re-engineered for an electric powertrain. It will offer both single and dual motor variants, the latter featuring all-wheel drive, something no rival in its price band currently provides. A range of over 500 km is expected, along with premium features like a 12.3-inch infotainment display, 10-speaker JBL system, and Level 2 ADAS. With an expected starting price of around ₹25 lakh, this will be Tata’s flagship EV.

tata sierra ev design

Next is the Tata Sierra EV, which brings back a legendary name in a thoroughly modern avatar. Launching in the 2026 financial year, it will aim at the lifestyle SUV buyer with bold styling, dual screens, and a tech-laden cabin. It’ll also share underpinnings and battery options with the Harrier EV, likely priced around ₹30 lakh. Though not as budget-friendly, the Sierra EV is significant because it will broaden appeal among buyers who want a statement EV without spending luxury-brand money.

Maruti Suzuki e-Vitara and Toyota Urban Cruiser EV: Shared Platform, Separate Identities

Maruti Suzuki's first electric SUV, the e-Vitara, is expected in September 2025 after a delay from its earlier March timeline. Built on a dedicated EV platform developed jointly with Toyota, this vehicle aims to be Maruti’s global EV workhorse, with exports planned for over 100 countries.

It’s likely to be offered in two battery options, 49 kWh and 61 kWh, delivering ranges around the 500km mark. Priced between ₹17 lakh and ₹22.5 lakh, the e-Vitara brings solid value to the midsize EV SUV space. It will include dual displays, ADAS features, and even a 10-speaker Infinity audio system, making it a well-rounded package.

Toyota’s Urban Cruiser EV, built on the same platform, will follow shortly after, likely in late 2025. While mechanically similar, Toyota’s design approach is more conservative and refined. It offers the same battery-motor setup as the e-Vitara but wrapped in a more subtle exterior. Toyota is banking on its long-standing reputation for durability and reliability to attract conservative buyers who want a dependable EV without being flashy.

Kia’s EV Play: The Syros and Carens

Kia is looking to make a splash in the affordable EV space with not one but two significant launches.

kia syros ev

The Kia Syros EV, expected between January and March 2026, will slot into the compact SUV segment with pricing between ₹15 and ₹20 lakh. It’s based on the Hyundai Inster platform and will come with two battery options, 42 kWh and 49 kWh. A 300 to 355 km WLTP range is expected, with Level 2 ADAS, a 360-degree camera, and reclining, ventilated rear seats. These back-seat features in particular are rare in this segment and could be a decisive factor for family buyers.

Kia will also introduce the Clavis EV, in July 2025, which will become India’s first mainstream 7-seater electric MPV. Priced at around ₹20 lakh, the Clavis EV will bring modern family-focused features like multiple drive modes, a panoramic sunroof, and Level 2 ADAS. If priced right, this could tap into the growing demand for spacious, practical EVs that don’t break the bank.

Mahindra's Compact Challenger: The XUV 3XO EV

Mahindra is not holding back either. The XUV 3XO EV, the electric counterpart of its recently refreshed compact SUV, is expected to launch in early 2026.

Pricing will likely start from ₹13 lakh, with two battery variants offering up to 456 kms of range. A single motor producing nearly 148 Bhp will power the front wheels, promising decent performance. The 3XO EV’s interior and features will mirror its ICE sibling, with a large touchscreen, panoramic sunroof, and connected tech rounding out the package.

This could very well be the most affordable long-range EV in India when it arrives.

Vietnam’s VinFast VF6 and VF7: New Faces, Bold Intentions

Vietnamese EV maker VinFast is preparing to enter India with two products, the VF6 and VF7.

vinfast vf6

The VF6, roughly the same size as the Hyundai Creta EV. VinFast is setting up a manufacturing facility in Tuticorin, Tamil Nadu and the EVs will be assembled or manufactured here. This would help them price the EV aggressively. The VF6 could come with a 59.6kWh battery pack and a front axle-mounted electric motor. Its powertrain will be capable of producing 204hp and 310Nm on the Plus variant and 178hp and 250Nm on the 'Eco'. Vinfast claims a range of 381km on the Plus variant and 399km on the Eco variant. In equipment, the VF6 could offer Level 2 ADAS, a 12.9-inch touchscreen, and support for over-the-air (OTA) updates.

vinfast vf7

The VF7, meanwhile, will play in the premium crossover space with a more powerful dual-motor variant producing 349 Bhp and a WLTP range of over 430 km. Even the single-motor Eco version promises strong numbers. Launch is scheduled for the festive season in 2025, with pricing likely around ₹25 to ₹28 lakh. While not exactly affordable by mass-market standards, the VF7 offers a feature-rich alternative for buyers looking for something different.

MG’s Fresh Shot at Relevance: The S5 EV

MG Motor plans to replace its ageing ZS EV with the MG S5 EV, expected to debut in the final quarter of 2025. Built on a new modular platform, the S5 will be longer and more spacious, offering better range and tech than its predecessor. Likely priced around ₹18-20 lakh, it’s intended to take on newer rivals like the Hyundai Creta Electric and Tata Harrier.EV.

MG's strategy is clear; offer more space, modern interiors, and solid range at a competitive price. The S5 could be the brand’s next volume-seller in the EV space if the pricing undercuts similarly-specced rivals.

What It Means for You: A Buyer’s Market Finally Emerging

This rush of EV launches isn’t just about ticking boxes or chasing trends. It marks a deliberate shift by carmakers toward making electric mobility practical, aspirational, and within reach of average families.

Unlike the early days of EVs when choices were limited and compromises high, the upcoming line-up shows how quickly the market is maturing. Brands are offering longer ranges, better features, and more diverse body styles. The growing focus on MPVs and 7-seaters, such as the Carens EV, reflects evolving buyer priorities.
