JSW MG Motor Delivers 101 Windsor EVs On A Single Day In Bengaluru

JSW MG Motor India launched the Windsor EV on September 11, 2024, and the deliveries began during Dussehra (October 12). In an interesting turn of events, the manufacturer commenced deliveries of 101 Windsor EVs in Bengaluru on a single day. The milestone delivery took place on October 26, 2024, at MG Jubilant dealership.
The Windsor has seen massive acceptance in the country. It garnered 15,176 bookings within the first 24 hours. This is probably the highest any electric passenger vehicle has managed to achieve so far. The EV is priced from Rs 9.99 lakh, ex-showroom. There are two different ways of ownership available- the regular route of paying for the whole vehicle, and a BaaS model in which you pay for just the vehicle, and use the battery on a rental basis. In previous articles, we have talked in detail about the prices of both the whole ownership and the BaaS model.
MG describes the Windsor as a CUV (Crossover Utility Vehicle)- something that offers the comfort of a sedan with the space and practicality of an SUV. As you might know by now, it is based on the Wuling Cloud EV sold in many Southeast Asian countries. Slight tweaks have, however, been made on the vehicle to better suit the Indian road and traffic scenarios. The CUV is available in a total of three variants – Excite, Exclusive, and Essence.
The ‘Intelligent CUV’ (as MG calls it) measures 4,295mm in length, 1,850mm in width, and 1,677mm in height. It has a good 2,700mm wheelbase as well. These ‘seemingly stretched’ proportions generate generous room on the inside. The ‘Pure EV platform’ that underpins the Windsor is to be thanked for the expanse.
On design grounds, the Windsor looks good and unique. It strikes a mid-note between a butch SUV styling, boring MPV bodywork and a low-slung sedan body style. There’s a bulbous and rounded-off nature to its design. Key design cues include a split headlamp design, sleek LED DRLs joined by a full-width LED light bar, 18-inch five-spoke alloy wheels, flush-type door handles, blacked-out C and D pillars, simple bumper design with an integrated skid plate, and connected LED taillights.
The cabin gets a minimal, roomy and practical design. It packs a lot of features and tech as well. The interior has a Black colourway with Bronze inserts. MG has skimped with physical buttons, and most controls are integrated into the large central touchscreen, which by the way, is a 15.6-inch unit- arguably the largest in the segment. The screen itself gets a modern, minimalistic design and isn’t bad with its responsiveness.
Other features on offer are an 8.8-inch digital instrument gauge cluster, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, a wireless charger, a 9-speaker Infinity sound system, automatic climate control, and cruise control. The vehicle also comes with a massive panoramic glass roof and rear seats that can recline 135 degrees. MG says these are inspired by business class air travel and call them the ‘Aero Lounge’
The safety suite consists of 6 airbags, a 360-degree camera, TPMS, and an Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) kit that includes lane-keep assist, adaptive cruise control, and autonomous emergency braking.
The Windsor comes with an IP67-rated 38 kWh battery pack and a single electric motor that generates 136 PS and 200 Nm. The setup is claimed to offer a range of 332 km per charge. We did a proper range test with the EV. Make sure to watch it for our detailed impressions.
