101 MG Windsor EVs Delivered On A Single Day In Chennai

JSW MG Motor India has commenced another milestone delivery for the recently launched Windsor EV. On November 16, 2024, 101 units were delivered in Chennai on a single day, managed by MG FPL Chennai. The carmaker launched the Windsor in the country on September 11, 2024. Bookings soared- going past 15,176 within the first 24 hours. This was the highest for any passenger EV in the country yet. MG India started commencing deliveries on October 12th.
The manufacturer has tasted success with the Windsor EV, as the CUV (Crossover Utility Vehicle) has been in high demand since its launch. It sold 3,116 units in October, a number that was almost 30% of the total passenger EV sales of the month. It even dethroned the Tata Nexon EV to become India’s best-selling EV.
The fact that MG is offering two different ways of ownership for Windsor (BAAS and full price) also seems to have boosted its demand and, in turn, sales. Under the BAAS model, the vehicle price stands at 9.99 Lakhs and the user will have to pay INR 3.5/Km in battery rental. The curated set of choices offered in variants- Excite, Exclusive, and Essence – and colors: Starburst Black, Pearl White, Clay Beige, and Turquoise Green, should have also played a part in the EV’s current popularity.
This is not the first time that MG has done a milestone delivery event. On October 26, 2024, 101 Windsor EVs were delivered in a similar event in Bengaluru by the MG Jubilant dealership.
The Windsor is quite large with generous room on the inside. It is 4,295mm in length, 1,850mm in width, and 1,677mm in height. The wheelbase stands at 2,700 mm. This EV is based on a new ‘Pure EV platform’. The vehicle is claimed to offer the c0mf0rt of a sedan with the expanse and convenience of an SUV. The design has a bulbous nature to it. Key exterior highlights are a full-width LED light bar, 18-inch five-spoke alloy wheels, flush-type door handles, blacked-out C and D pillars, simple bumper design and connected tail lights.
There’s ample room inside. Technology and features include a huge 15.6-inch touchscreen infotainment system, 8.8-inch digital instrument cluster, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, a wireless charger, a 9-speaker Infinity sound system, panoramic glass roof, automatic climate control, cruise control, and seats that can recline up to 135 degrees. These get faux leather upholstery with quilted patterns, which MG calls ‘Aero Lounge’.
The infotainment unit now runs a new entertainment engine- the MG-Jio Innovative Connectivity Platform (ICP). It provides a seamless in-car experience, encompassing Home-to-Car functionality and over 100 AI-powered voice commands.
The cabin colourway is Black with tasteful touches of Bronze. There are very few physical buttons and controls available. Even the touchscreen gets minimal physical controls. As claimed by the manufacturer, the Windsor’s cabin takes inspiration from luxury air travel. At 604 litres, the boot space too is generous.
The safety suite offers 6 airbags, a 360-degree camera, TPMS, and an Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS). The ADAS on this vehicle has functions like lane-keep assist, adaptive cruise control, and autonomous emergency braking.
Coming to the powertrain, the Windsor gets an IP67-rated 38 kWh battery pack paired with a single electric motor that makes 136 PS and 200 Nm. The four available driving modes are Eco+, Eco, Normal, and Sport. The Windsor has a claimed range of 332 km per charge. We at Cartoq, previously did a quick range test. Watch it below.
