MG To Challenge Tiago.EV And Punch.EV: 2 New Electric Cars Spied In India

JSW MG Motor India unexpectedly took a major chunk of the Indian electric vehicle market with the launch of the Windsor EV and Windsor Pro. Now, to further increase its market share in the country, the company is planning to launch two brand-new electric vehicles to take on the Tata Punch.ev and Tiago.ev. These new models, coming from MG Motor India, will be rebadged versions of the Wuling Binguo and Bingo SUV and hatchback that are sold in China under the SAIC-General Motors collaboration.
Back in June of last year, MG Motor India filed a patent for the Binguo EV in India. Since then, the vehicle was not seen testing in India, and the details on it were very scarce. However, now for the first time, the Wuling Binguo EV SUV has been spotted in Mumbai. It was parked next to another Wuling SUV in an underground parking lot.
We can note that the vehicle was seen without any camouflage. Notable highlights of the Wuling Binguo EV were its Tesla Model Y-like LED headlights at the front, closed-off front grille, and an overall classy front end. The vehicle was also seen with a set of five-spoke diamond-cut alloy wheels and a blacked-out roof.
This particular vehicle's rear end has not been seen in the spy images. However, at the rear, it gets a simple tailgate with LED taillights and a chunky rear bumper. This vehicle in China is offered in three colors, namely Aurora Green, Storm Gray, and Quantum Black.
Again, the interior images of this Punch.ev-rivaling SUV have not been shared online. However, the images from the Chinese version show a very simple yet modern-looking dashboard. It gets a large floating touchscreen infotainment system in the middle, a large digital instrument gauge cluster, horizontal AC vents, and a few buttons for the automatic climate control.
In China, the Wuling Binguo EV SUV is offered with two battery pack options, which offer ranges of 410 km and 510 km on a single full charge. The top-of-the-line variant of this SUV comes equipped with a 75 kW or 101 bhp and 180 Nm of torque-generating electric motor. It is only offered with a front-wheel-drive layout.
Apart from the Binguo EV SUV, there was a fully undisguised test mule of the Binguo EV hatchback as well. From the front, this vehicle looks similar to the SUV. However, from the rear, it looks different. One can note that it slightly resembles its direct rival, the Tata Tiago.ev. From the rear, the dual-tone appearance of the vehicle is also highlighted and looks very premium. It was also equipped with silver and black wheel covers.
As for the powertrain options of the Tiago.ev rival, the Binguo EV hatchback is offered with three powertrain options. The first is a 30 kW motor with a 17.3 kWh battery pack offering a range of 203 km. Then there is the 50 kW motor with a 31.9 kWh battery pack unit, which offers 333 km of range. And lastly, there is the 37.9 kWh battery pack variant, which offers a range of 410 km.
The Tata Tiago.ev, on the other hand, is offered with two battery pack options, 19.2 kWh and 24 kWh, offering ranges of 223 km and 315 km. It is believed that the Binguo EV SUV will be offered in the range of Rs 10–15 lakh to rival the Punch.ev. Meanwhile, the Binguo hatchback will be offered in the range of Rs 8–11 lakh to take on the Tiago.ev.
