KIA Carens Clavis EV Revealed Ahead Of July 15 Launch

Kia is set to launch its first mass-market electric vehicle (EV) in India. The Carens Clavis EV will debut on July 15, 2025, and will become the manufacturer's first made-in-India electric vehicle. The EV6 and EV9 sold now are both complete imports. Local production will allow Kia to price the Clavis EV competitively. The carmaker has now shared a video teaser of the upcoming electric MPV, which also reveals the design of the final product.
From the video, it is clear that the EV will closely resemble the petrol/diesel-powered Carens Clavis in design. Very few changes can be seen in the exterior styling.
The silhouette is familiar and the only noticeable difference in the side view is the wheel design. The EV gets aero-optimized alloy wheels while the Internal Combustion Engine (ICE) version has rather conventional wheels.
The charging port is integrated into the nose, just below the closed-off grille section. This section could remind you of the Kia EV5 in the way it looks. Minor changes can be spotted in the bumpers as well. Unlike the ICE counterpart, the EV gets low-mounted fog lamps which sit on the front bumper.

The video also gives a peek inside. We see the EV's cabin design and layout to mirror those of the regular Clavis, to a large extent. There are, however, a bunch of functional changes. Since this is an EV, the gear selector (gear lever) has been taken off the centre console. Clearly, the Clavis EV offers more in-cabin storage spaces than the ICE vehicle. Another noticeable change is in the upholstery colourway.
In terms of features, a lot seems to be shared between the ICE and EV forms of the Clavis. You get to see the twin-screen setup in the video- two 12.3-inch units- one for the infotainment and the other for instrumentation. This seems to be almost unchanged from what's found on the ICE version.
We expect the Clavis EV to offer features like a panoramic sunroof, ventilated seats at the front, dual-zone climate control, wireless charging, ambient lighting, an air purifier, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and premium Bose audio. Most of these are already available on the petrol/diesel version of the MPV.

When launched, the Clavis EV will become the first seven-seater mass-market electric vehicle in india. As of now, the 7-seater EV space is largely unexplored, and with the right placement, the electric Clavis can possibly do wonders.
The teaser video also suggests the Clavis EV to have Vehicle-To-Load (V2L) (and Vehicle-To-Vehicle (V2V)) charging tech. See how it is parked at a camping site, against the backdrop of an illuminated tent? Previously we saw MG do a similar setting in its campaigns for the Windsor Pro, to show the V2L capability. Kia could also be doing the same. Plus, the Creta Electric, which it relies on for underpinnings, already offers V2V and V2L. So, it is almost baseless to expect the Clavis EV to shy away from offering these.

Kia hasn't revealed the specifications of the Clavis EV. We, however, expect it to offer two battery pack choices- 42 kWh and 51.4 kWh. The teaser video also claims a range of 490 kilometres per charge. This could be for the larger battery. The electric motor would sit on the front axle and the vehicle will thus have a Front Wheel Drive (FWD) layout.
The motor output is likely to be in the ballpark of the Creta Electric's. However, given its larger size and increased seating, the real-world performance could be slightly toned down than what the Creta offers.
The Clavis EV will also have a strong focus on safety. It will come packed with six airbags, disc brakes for all wheels, ESC, VSM, ABS with EBD, level 2 ADAS, traction control, and hill start assist. We expect to know more specifications and prices on July 15...
