Kia India launched the Carens Clavis in May this year. It sits above the Carens in the manufacturer's portfolio, as a more premium product. On the sidelines of its launch, Kia's leadership had confirmed that their first mass-market electric vehicle (EV) would be based on the Clavis, and went on to say that it would be out in July. Test mule sightings of the Clavis EV have been common in the past few months. This too hints at an imminent debut. We now know that the Clavis EV will be out on July 15, 2025.

Upon launch, it will become the manufacturer's first locally produced electric vehicle. Kia's EV portfolio in India currently consists of the EV6 and EV9, both of which are CBU imports. The all-electric Clavis will also be the first three-row mass-market EV. We expect the prices to be out by August. With days left for the premiere, here's everything we know about the Clavis-based EV...

Carens Clavis EV: Design, Interior And Features

Though Kia hasn't revealed anything around the possible nomenclature yet, it is safe to expect it to be called the Carens Clavis EV or the Clavis EV, when launched.

On design grounds, the EV is expected to resemble the petrol/diesel Clavis to a great extent. Spy shots hint at the possibility of a familiar exterior silhouette and a bunch of EV-specific details. We expect to see the likes of multiple EV badges, new aero-optimized wheels, a sealed-off grille, and more.

Other Carens Clavis-borrowed design elements like the triple-pod LED headlamps that sit in triangular enclosures and sleek LED DRLs will likely be present as well.

Though not much is known about it yet, the EV's interior could retain a similar design and layout as the ICE (Internal Combustion Engine) version. It could come with a long list of features.

We expect to find the likes of a 26.62-inch dual panoramic display which could include the central touchscreen and the driver information display, front ventilated seats, a 4-way power-adjustable driver’s seat, wireless phone charging, ambient lighting, dual-zone climate control with rear AC vents, connected car technology, and a premium 8-speaker BOSE sound system.

The electric MPV will likely come with Level 2 Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) as well. Many of these features are seen on the ICE Clavis as well. Kia could pack some surprises on the EV, which we will get to know in the coming weeks.

Our list of expectations also has the Vehicle-To-Load (V2L) and Vehicle-To-Vehicle (V2V) charging. The Clavis EV will be based on the Creta Electric's high-voltage architecture, which already has these on offer. So, there is no reason that the Clavis EV should shy away from offering these.

The ADAS suite on the electric Clavis will likely have features like adaptive cruise control, automatic emergency braking, high beam assist, and driver attention warning.

Expected Specifications

We expect Kia to base the Clavis EV on the same platform as the Hyundai Creta Electric. The two could then have shared electric powertrains and batteries as well. If so, the Clavis EV is likely to come with two battery pack choices- 42kWh and a larger 51.4kWh.

On the Creta Electric, the 42kWh battery is mated to a 135hp electric motor and is claimed to return a range of 390km on a full charge. The larger battery pack comes with a 171hp motor and delivers a range of up to 473km. The Clavis EV is likely to get these specifications as well.

Talking of competition, the EV will lock horns with the likes of the MG ZS EV, Hyundai Creta Electric, Tata Curvv EV, Mahindra BE6 and even the upcoming Maruti Suzuki e-Vitara. Proper packaging and smart pricing could give the Clavis EV the entry it deserves.
