Kia has just launched the Carens Clavis EV in India. Think of it as the all-electric form of the recently launched Carens Clavis. It has a strong visual resemblance to the petrol/diesel Clavis. With an ex-showroom starting price of Rs 17.99 lakh, the electric MPV seems to pack good value. Let's see the Clavis EV in studio images...

Carens Clavis EV Design

Just like the petrol or diesel-powered Clavis, the EV is also based on the manufacturer's 'Opposites United' design philosophy. It gets a closed-off grille section (which Kia calls the 'Digital Tiger Face'), EV6-like LED DRLs (Daytime Running Lamps), and LED headlamps with a triangular design.

Kia has given it a bunch of EV-specific details. It comes with aero-optimized 17-inch wheels which feature an attractive design. Another interesting feature is the Active Air Flaps (AAF).

These have been integrated into the front bumper. They help in optimizing battery temperature and achieving better aerodynamic efficiency. The EV also comes with a proper underbody covering, which plays a key role in keeping it aero-efficient.

The front bumper gets low-mounted fog lamps and an integrated Silver skid plate as well. The Clavis EV has its charger port located on the nose, just below the grille section. This vehicle offers both Vehicle-To-Load (V2L) (and Vehicle-To-Vehicle (V2V)) charging.

Due to its EV genes, the Clavis EV offers 25 litres of storage space under its hood, in the 'frunk'. This space can be used to store the electric MPV's charger cables and other essentials.

Most things at the rear remain similar to those of the Internal Combustion Engine (ICE) version. You see a thick lightbar that connects the LED tail lamps on both ends. A skid plate can be seen on the rear bumper as well.

The Clavis EV's colour palette has six shades- Ivory Silver Matte, Glacier White Pearl, Pewter Olive, Aurora Black Pearl, Imperial Blue, and Gravity Grey.

Interior And Features

The Clavis EV gets a different cabin colour compared to its ICE counterpart. It is finished in a dual-tone Triton Navy- Beige colourway. There is a sense of refinement inside. It feels modern and upmarket.

Kia has packaged this electric vehicle well. You get to see a 22.62-inch dual-screen setup inside. This includes an infotainment touchscreen and a completely digital instrument cluster. The vehicle also gets an 8-speaker premium BOSE audio system. The touchscreen further offers wireless Apple Carplay and Android Auto and comes with USB Type-C ports.

Another key attraction is the large panoramic sunroof. This feature is in high demand today and helps in making the cabin feel more pleasant and roomy.

Other features onboard include a wireless charger, ventilated front seats, dual-zone climate control, a wireless charger for smartphones, an air purifier, 64-colour ambient lighting, and more.

A key change to spot inside is on the centre console. The area where the gear shifter used to sit on the ICE vehicle is seen vacant. This being an EV, the gear lever is replaced with a drive selector. This sits on a stalk that's placed to the right of the steering wheel. The shifter area now comes with storage spaces.

The Clavis EV's interior feels large and roomy. Kia has kept it practical and comfortable. The vehicle comes with a 2+3+3 layout alone. The second row gets an electric-tumble function and even gets a boss mode.

Powertrain Specifications

The Clavis EV comes with two battery pack choices- 42 kWh and 51.4 kWh. The smaller has a claimed range of 404 km while the larger offers 490 km per charge. The front-axle-mounted electric motor generates up to 171 PS hp and 255 Nm. 0-100 kph, Kia says, is done in just 8.5 seconds.
