Kia Carens Clavis EV: Variants And Features Explained

Kia has launched its first mass-market electric vehicle in India- the Carens Clavis EV. The starting price of this vehicle is Rs 17.99 lakh, ex-showroom- the same as the base price of the Hyundai Creta Electric. It comes in three broad trims- HTK+, HTX and HTX+. In this article, we'll take a closer look at these variants and what features they bring to the table.
Kia offers two battery packs on the Clavis EV- 42 kWh and 51.4 kWh. The base variant- HTK+ is available only with the smaller unit and has an ex-showroom price of Rs 17.99 lakh.
The mid-spec HTX can be had in both the Standard Range and Extended Range (ER) forms, with the latter featuring the 51.4kWh battery pack. The regular HTX has an ex-showroom price of 20.49 lakh rupees while the 51.4kWh version costs 22.49 lakh, ex-showroom. The range-topping HTX Plus comes with just the larger battery pack and has an ex-showroom price of Rs 24.49 lakh.
In the Indian market, the Clavis EV's primary rival is the BYD eMax 7. The Korean has managed to undercut its prices, by sizeable margins. The eMax 7 is priced between Rs 26.90 lakh and Rs 29.90 lakh, ex-showroom. This smart pricing should give the Clavis EV a strong start.
Kia has done a wonderful job in packaging this EV. Even the base-spec HTK+ variant comes with decent kit levels. It gets LED headlights with connected DRLs and LED fog lamps, front and rear skid plates, Active air flaps, a roof-mounted spoiler, body-coloured door handles, roof rails, and a shark-fin antenna. It rides on 16-inch alloy wheels.
The cabin gets a dual-tone Black and Beige colourway and semi-leatherette upholstery. The second-row seats feature a one-touch electric tumble function as well, The driver seat gets manual adjustments. Second-row passengers get sunshades for added comfort.
You will also find two 12.3-inch screens- one functioning as the infotainment touchscreen and the other serving as the driver's display. The variant also features a 6-speaker sound system, connected car tech, and USB type-C charging ports.
Other features included are keyless entry with remote start function, electrically adjustable ORVM with auto fold, Multi-function touch panel for infotainment and AC, 60-40 split folding second row, one-touch up/down function for driver-side window, paddle shifters for regen-adjustment, electronic parking brake with auto hold, cruise control and selectable drive modes.
The safety suite includes 6 airbags, reverse parking camera with parking sensors, ABS with EBD, electronic stability control, hill start assist, tyre pressure monitoring system, 3-point seat belts for all passengers, ISOFIX child seat mounts and disc brakes for all wheels.

The HTX has everything that's offered on the HTK+. Features like a 64-color ambient lighting, an electrically adjustable steering wheel, an auto up/down function for all windows, and an air purifier. The safety suite sees the addition of a 360-degree camera, blind spot monitor and Level 2 ADAS.
The HTX gets a dual-tone Navy and Beige cabin with leatherette upholstery. The steering wheel comes wrapped in leather.
Price: Rs 20.49 lakh
Almost everything except the wheel size and battery pack remains the same as the regular HTX variant. The Extended Range version rides on 17-inch dual-tone wheels, and comes with the 51.4 kWh battery that claims a range of 490 km per charge.
Price: Rs 22.49 lakh
The range-topping variant comes with all the bells and whistles. The cabin feels supremely comfortable and tech-packed. In addition to the features offered on the HTX ER, this variant gets ventilated front seats, 8-speaker BOSE audio, rain-sensing wipers, rear door spot lamps with Kia logo projection, 4-way power adjustable driver’s seat and vehicle-to-load charging (V2L).
Price: Rs 24.49 lakh
The Clavis EV has a front axle-mounted electric motor which produces 135 PS and 255Nm with the smaller battery pack and 171 PS and 255 Nm with the larger battery pack. The 42 kWh unit has a claimed range of 404 km per charge.
