The outgoing Carens has its ex-showroom price in the range of Rs. 10.60-19.70 lakh. Owing to its added equipment and more premium nature, the Clavis will likely sit above it.

With the Clavis out on sale, Kia is attempting a two-product strategy in the MPV segment. The regular Carens will target those who are on the lookout for a value for money three-row MPV while the Clavis will appeal to those who want a more premium, feature-packed product and would spend on one without regrets.

The Korean carmaker had recently taken a similar approach in the subcompact SUV segment as well. It currently has both the Syros and Sonet on sale in it. The former sits above the Sonet in terms of kit levels and appeal, and comes with a higher price tag. The manufacturer has thus managed to seal the price gap with the Syros. A similar gameplan can be seen with the Clavis as well.

2025 Kia Carens Clavis: Everything To Know About It

Let's start with the name. Kia says that the name comes from the term 'Clavis Aurea' which translates to 'the Golden Key'.

Design and Appearance

The design remains identical to that of the outgoing Carens, and follows the 'Opposites United' design philosophy. The front fascia of stands out with a blanked-off grille and new triangular-shaped LED headlights. The angular DRLs resemble those seen on the EV6, giving the SUV a modern and aggressive identity. The front bumper has been completely redesigned, adding to its sharper appeal.

At the rear, the Clavis receives new LED tail lamps connected by an LED light bar for a sleek, unified look. A refreshed rear bumper with silver accents adds to the SUV’s bold stance. The 17-inch alloy wheels get a new design and are bigger than what you see on the Carens.

The next big change is the colour palette. The Clavis gets a bunch of new colours which the regular Carens miss out on. There are a total of 8 monotone colours offered. Even the cabin colourways vary with trims- just like how they do in the Seltos and Syros. The steering wheel now gets a new, modern, twp-spoke design.

Kia Clavis' Features

The feature list has been upgraded generously, on the Clavis. It comes with a massive 26.6-inch panoramic display panel. This comprises the central infotainment system and the all-digital instrument cluster. The instrument cluster on the Clavis feels more readable and has better graphics.

The central console gets a swap switch for toggling between temperature and infotainment controls. We have seen a similar setup on the Hyundai Verna. The Clavis also gets 4-way powered driver's seat, ventilated front seats, 8-speaker premium audio system by BOSE, dual-zone climate control, multilingual VR commands, a massive panoramic sunroof, and a level 2 ADAS suite.

The vehicle also retains features such as keyless entry, and push-button start. In terms of safety, the Clavis also offers six airbags, ESC, parking sensors at both ends, TPMS, and a 360-degree camera.

Powertrain

The Clavis offers the same set of engine and transmission options as the regular Carens. The powertrain choices include a 1.5 naturally aspirated petrol, 1.5L turbocharged petrol and the 1.5L turbocharged diesel. Transmission choices are a 6-speed manual, a 6-speed automatic, and a 7-speed DCT.

In the Indian market, the Carens Clavis competes with the likes of Maruti Ertiga, Maruti XL6 and the existing Kia Carens- as a more premium alternative. It could even lock horns with some variants of the Innova Crysta, Hycross and the Maruti Invicto.
