Kia India’s latest offering, the Carens Clavis, has made a strong start in the market with more than 21,000 bookings in just four months. Out of these, over 20,000 are for the ICE variant, while the Carens Clavis EV has crossed the 1,000-unit mark. The figures highlight the success of Kia’s strategy of offering both conventional and electric versions in the MPV space, giving buyers the flexibility to choose according to their comfort and requirements.

The Carens Clavis has been positioned as a family-focused people mover that blends SUV-inspired styling with the space and practicality of an MPV. This balance has helped it appeal to customers who want the presence of an SUV without compromising on cabin space and comfort.

Features and Comfort at the Core

A key reason for the Carens Clavis’ acceptance is its feature-rich package. The ICE variant comes equipped with practical touches such as second-row sliding, reclining, and one-touch electric tumble seats, which make access and comfort easier for families. The much-talked-about “Boss Mode” allows for enhanced legroom in the second row, a feature usually seen in more premium segments.

On the technology front, dual 12.3-inch displays, an 8-speaker Bose audio system, and 64-colour ambient lighting enhance the cabin experience. The dual dashcam system and an innovative switch that lets users toggle between climate control and infotainment functions underline Kia’s focus on convenience and real-world usability.

EV Variant Adds to Appeal

The Carens Clavis EV has drawn attention as Kia’s first electric vehicle manufactured in India. Offered with two battery packs, it addresses a wide range of consumer needs. The larger 51.4kWh option delivers a certified range of 490 km, while the smaller 42kWh pack offers 404 km. With 171PS of power and 255Nm of torque, performance figures are adequate for family usage.

Charging is another strength, with compatibility for 100kW DC fast charging that can replenish the battery from 10% to 80% in 39 minutes. This makes it suitable not just for daily commutes but also for longer journeys. The EV variant also comes with 90 connected car features, ranging from remote monitoring to pre-cooling and navigation assistance, adding a layer of convenience for owners who value digital connectivity.

MPVs Can Get Premium Too

The ICE Carens Clavis is priced between ₹11.50 lakh and ₹21.50 lakh, while the EV variant ranges from ₹17.99 lakh to ₹24.49 lakh. The strategy positions both vehicles in the premium MPV space, where they compete with established rivals but aim to stand out through their feature set and dual powertrain availability.

The booking momentum points to two larger trends. First, buyers in this segment are increasingly ready to pay for premium comfort and advanced technology rather than treating MPVs as purely functional vehicles. Second, the early traction of the EV version indicates that families are beginning to consider electric vehicles seriously, provided they offer adequate range and charging convenience.

For Kia, the success validates the decision to launch both ICE and EV models together. In a market where infrastructure for electric mobility is still developing, this approach lets consumers decide based on their own comfort levels with the technology.
