Kia India recently launched its first affordable all-electric vehicle, the Clavis EV, in India with a price tag of Rs 17.99 lakh. Recently, the Union Minister of Heavy Industries and Steel, H.D. Kumaraswamy, was shown this vehicle at his residence in Delhi. The minister also shared a video yesterday in which he was seen checking out the newly launched Tata Harrier.ev as well. Prior to that he was also shown the Mahindra BE 6 and XEV 9E at his home as well.

H.D. Kumaraswamy Checks Out Kia Clavis EV

The Union Minister of Heavy Industries and Steel, H.D. Kumaraswamy, was presented the Kia Clavis EV at his residence by senior Kia officials. Bhimsen Gulabani, VP Customer Experience, and Atul Sood, Sr. VP - Sales and Marketing from Kia India, were seen standing next to the minister during the presentation of the Clavis EV.

For those who may not be aware, H.D. Kumaraswamy oversees the Indian electric vehicle market push. He has a vital role in influencing EV policies, incentives, subsidies, and manufacturing regulations. At the moment, there is no video showing the minister checking out the Kia Clavis EV in detail. However, it is likely to be shared soon.

As mentioned, just three weeks ago, Kia India launched the Clavis EV in India. This particular electric MPV is currently the most affordable electric MPV in India. It is also the first Made-in-India electric vehicle from Kia. It starts at Rs 17.99 lakh and goes all the way up to Rs 24.49 lakh.

In terms of design, the Kia Clavis EV gets all-new triangular LED headlights with L-shaped LED DRLs. It also gets a blanked-out grille, a nose-mounted charging point, and low-set fog lights. The Clavis EV also comes with LED taillights with a connected light bar, 17-inch dual-tone aero wheels, and EV5-inspired styling cues.

On the inside, the Kia Clavis EV gets a dual-tone color scheme, a stalk-mounted drive selector, 3-row seating with electric tumble function, and boss mode. It also gets dual 12.3-inch digital displays, a panoramic sunroof, ventilated front seats, dual-zone climate control, 8-speaker BOSE audio, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, a wireless phone charger, V2L and V2V capabilities, and many other features.

The Kia Clavis EV shares its electric drivetrain with the Hyundai Creta EV. This electric MPV gets two battery pack options – 42 kWh with a claimed range of 404 km and 51.4 kWh with a claimed range of 490 km. As for the electric motor, it gets a front-mounted motor that makes 171 PS and 255 Nm of torque. It also comes with four levels of regenerative braking.

H.D. Kumaraswamy Also Checked Out Mahindra BE 6 and XUV 9E

Earlier this year, in January, H.D. Kumaraswamy was also shown the Mahindra XUV 9E and BE 6 electric SUVs at his residence. He was accompanied by other bureaucrats and senior officials from Mahindra Automotive. He was taken on test drives of both electric SUVs and was briefed about all the modern features and powertrains offered by these EV SUVs. Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin was also shown these electric SUVs at his office.
