Kia Clavis Spied Testing: Looks Like A Skoda Yeti (Video)

Kia India is getting ready to launch the all-new Clavis in India. Every passing day now, a new test mule of this upcoming SUV gets spotted testing. Once again, another new test mule of the Kia Clavis was seen testing on the public road. This time around, it was spotted on the Yamuna Expressway. The Kia Clavis test mule was spotted wearing a thick black cover; however, it can be noted that it resembles the Skoda Yeti SUV, which was once sold in India.

This video of the Kia Clavis being tested on the Yamuna Expressway has been shared on Reddit. In this short clip, the SUV, which was almost fully covered with a thick black cover, was being driven at a decently high speed. This new sighting of the Clavis suggests that the company has reached the final development stages and the launch could take place in the coming months.

Kia Clavis: Design Details

Now, although the Clavis that was spotted was covered, we still can see the major design details. As mentioned, the Clavis reminds us of the Skoda Yeti, which at the time was a unique SUV offered by Skoda in India. The main design factor which is similar between the two models is the design of the pillars.

Both the Clavis and the Yeti feature a thicker B-pillar. Also, they both manage to hide the C-pillar, which gives it a station wagon or a premium MPV kind of appearance despite not having a sliding door. This is a unique design approach, which has already set the Yeti apart and will also differentiate the Clavis from the rest of the SUVs in the current market.

Apart from this, the spy video shows that the SUV was equipped with a set of pronounced silver roof rails. Additionally, a set of unique-looking diamond-cut alloy wheels can also be seen. We can observe that the overall shape of the Kia Clavis will be very boxy. The rear was completely hidden; however, we know that it will be getting vertically positioned LED taillights.

The video also gives us a glimpse of the front of the upcoming Kia Clavis. It can be noted that it will be boasting a unique design for the headlight. It will come equipped with vertically stacked LED headlights, which will be positioned on the bumper. There will also be a vertically positioned LED DRL as well. Additionally, there will be huge air dams in the middle.

Kia Clavis: Interior

This particular spy video also gives us a hint at the interior design of the Clavis as well. We can note that this SUV will be getting a dual-connected screen setup. Most likely, these will be 10.25-inch displays, of which the left one will be a touchscreen infotainment screen. Meanwhile, the right one will be a digital driver’s display.

Apart from this, the Clavis will come with modern amenities like dual-zone climate control, a panoramic sunroof, leatherette upholstery, ventilated seats, and a Bose audio system. Previous spy shots have also revealed that the Clavis will come with a 360-degree camera and 12 parking sensors (6 on both ends).

Powertrain and Positioning

Kia reportedly will be offering the upcoming Clavis with ICE and EV powertrain options. At the moment, not much is known about its EV drivetrain. However, it could be offered with an impressive range between 350 km to 400 km. As for the ICE powertrain, it is believed that the company will offer the Clavis with the same engine as the Sonet.

This means that it could get the same 1.0-litre turbo petrol engine. So it should be able to deliver 120 PS of maximum power and 172 Nm of peak torque. Transmission options might include a 6-speed Intelligent Manual Transmission (iMT) and a 7-speed Dual-Clutch Transmission (DCT).

Kia will be positioning the new Clavis between the Seltos and Sonet in its India lineup. This means that this SUV will be competing in a new segment of its own. Most likely it could take on rivals like the upcoming Citroen Basalt and Tata Curvv.
