Kia eV6 Electric Luxury Crossover Selling Cheaper Than Toyota Fortuner

If you have ever wished to buy a Kia EV6, now would be the right time. The electric crossover has an ex-showroom price of 65 lakh. If this is what has been pulling you back from getting one, rush to the nearest dealer and check for MY23 stock availability. Kia has announced discounts of over 10 lakh on the EV6, bringing the ex-showroom price down to Rs 49.9 lakh for MY23 cars.
The on-road price goes up to 58 lakh in non-EV-friendly states like Kerala. This, if you recognize, is cheaper than a Toyota Fortuner! In states that offer cuts and benefits for EVs, the OTR price can be much less.
As obvious as it sounds, this price is exclusive to the MY23 models only and depends on stock availability. The EV6 has not been a slow-selling EV for its hefty price. Thus, unsold inventory would not be a guaranteed find at all dealers. It is best to check with your nearest KIA dealer for available stocks before concluding. This will also give you clarity on the delivery times.
At the time when the EV6 was launched, many saw it as a rather ambitiously priced product. Falling in the range of 60-65 lakh, the top-spec was just 5 lakh short of the price of a BMW i4. Many doubted if people would pay BMW money for a Kia. The price premium was primarily attributed to the vehicle’s CBU routes. The manufacturer reportedly had intentions to establish the brand rather than sell volumes. Also considering the EV6’s stellar reputation in international markets, and the fact that limited units were allocated to India back then, the prices made sense.
Today, the premium EV segment has more competition. Players like BYD have launched attractive products into the space. The 55+ lakh price range gathers increased footfalls. Going by how capable the vehicle is, the EV6 makes much sense for its price. The Hyundai cousin IONIQ5, on the other hand, benefitted from local assembly and is priced much less.
The India-spec EV6 is available in two variants- GT Line and GT Line AWD. There are five colour options 0n offer- Aurora Black Pearl, Moonscape, Runway Red, Snow White Pearl, and Yatch Blue. The EV comes with a 77.4 kWh battery pack that offers a range of up to 708 km. 10-80% charging can be done in just 18 minutes. The AWD version does the 0-100 kph sprint in just 5.2 seconds and has a motor output of 320 hp and 605 Nm. The top speed is 192 km/h.
The EV6 is much respected for its radical design, high practicality and smartly organised cabin that doesn’t fall short in offering creature comforts and luxury. Kia India has been quite experimental with the EV6. It can now be leased for Rs 1.29 lakh per month. This program, however, is exclusive for doctors, chartered accountants, self-employed professionals, and select corporates.
Kia has taken wraps off the new facelifted 2024 EV6 that features new looks and more equipment. On the outside, it now has a redesigned front with a new bumper, smaller grille, and LED lights. The headlights are similar to those on the EV3 and EV4, and the EV6 also has new 20-inch wheels and a different tailgate light.
Inside, the steering wheel is in two colours, there’s a heads-up display and a digital IRVM. The centre console is smoother, and it can connect to Apple CarPlay and Android Auto and has a fingerprint scanner.
The battery is bigger at 84 kWh, which means it can go further without needing to be charged. It continues to support 350 kW DC fast charging and can go from 10% to 80% in just 18 minutes. The new EV6 can go up to 580 km on a single charge. Kia will likely bring the new EV6 to our shores sooner than we think…
