Indian roads are full of surprises, and everyone reading this article knows it. We have several elements on the road that pose a threat to motorists. Careless driving and overspeeding are often considered the causes of such accidents. To control the speed of vehicles within city limits, authorities often build speed breakers. If you have driven on Indian roads, you would know by now that in many places, the speed breakers are not designed scientifically.

Seltos stuck on speed breaker in Bhopal

This often becomes the cause of accidents. An image of a Kia Seltos SUV has been circulating on the internet, where it is stuck on a poorly designed speed breaker. The owner of the Seltos SUV, Abhishek Sharma, shared the images of his Seltos on the internet some time ago. The incident happened in Madhya Pradesh’s Bhopal.

In the images, we can see the pre-facelift Kia Seltos SUV beached on a speed breaker in the middle of the road. The owner mentions in the post that the SUV got stuck on a huge speed breaker created by the authorities near Parking No. 10. He was casually driving the car over the speed breaker when this happened. When he realized that the SUV had beached on the newly built speed breaker, he started attempting to free the vehicle.

He tried to free the vehicle for hours, but all his efforts were in vain. When he realized that he could not get the vehicle out of this situation on his own, he decided to get help. He called for help and spent money to get the SUV out of the breaker. Abhishek’s social media post said, “A big salute to the excellent engineer who made this speed breaker. Cars often get stuck on this, but the administration is mum.”

Speed breakers: a menace?

Speed breakers are meant to control the speed of a vehicle within city limits. If these speed humps are built correctly, they would slow down the vehicle without causing any damage.

In this case, the Kia Seltos is an SUV with 190 mm ground clearance. This is not low by any means. Even an SUV got beached on this speed breaker only because it was not constructed scientifically. This is not the first time we have come across a case like this. Several speed breakers in many parts of the country rub against the underbody of vehicles. In most cases, it is hatchback or sedan owners who suffer.

We do feel the pain of the owner in this case. The images went viral on the internet, and many people who came across the post criticized the administration for making such speed breakers. Not just SUVs, we have seen supercars struggle to go over such speed breakers in the past. There have been instances where such unscientfically built or unmarked speed breakers on highways have caused accidents specially at night as the roads are not very well lit. It should also be noted that the speed breakers and rumble strips on highways are actually illegal.

Kia Seltos

Seltos was Kia’s first-ever product for the Indian market, and it quickly became popular among customers. It rivals cars like Hyundai Creta, Honda Elevate, Skoda Kushaq, Volkswagen Taigun, Maruti Grand Vitara, and Toyota Hyryder in the segment. The Seltos is available with a variety of engine and transmission options.

Kia Seltos is available with a 1.5-liter NA petrol, 1.5-liter turbo petrol, and a 1.5-liter turbo diesel engine option. The pre-facelift version used to get a 1.4-liter turbo petrol engine instead of the 1.5-liter turbo. These engines are available with manual, iMT, automatic, iVT, and DCT gearbox options. The price for the current version of the Kia Seltos starts at Rs 10.90 lakh, ex-showroom, and goes all the way up to Rs 20.35 lakh, ex-showroom.
