Kia Syros Compact SUV: New Teaser Reveals Panoramic Sunroof [Video]

Kia Motors’ big launch for 2025 is the Syros compact SUV – a vehicle that will bisect the Kia Sonet and Seltos, to sit right in the middle. The Syros will be launched early 2025, and in the run up to launch, Kia Motors has been putting out a slew of teasers showing various bits of the upcoming SUV. The latest teaser shows a glimpse of the Syros’ front end, and also reveals that it would get a sunroof. Here, check it out.
From the looks of it, Kia Syros’ sunroof will be a panoramic unit, similar to what Kia offers on the facelifted Seltos. The teaser also reveals that the Syros will get LED headlamps and fog lamps that sit on the front bumper in a vertically stacked, triple light layout. The front bumper also hosts daytime running LED strips, which have a unique vertical layout that emphasizes the height of the car rather than its width. There are roof rails on top.
Spyshots of the SUV have indicated that the Syros will be a butch-looking SUV, similar to the top-of-the-line Kia EV9 that was launched earlier this year. There has been speculation that the Syros will also get an all wheel drive layout. We believe that this could happen on the electric variant of the compact SUV that’s also in the pipeline. The internal combustion engined version is likely to be front wheel driven.
Talking of engine options, Kia Motors is holding card close to its chest. Given the fact that the automaker sells 3 other mass market cars – Sonet, Carens and Seltos – with plenty of parts shared between the each other, it would be safe to expect that the Syros would dip into the parts bin of its siblings. If the Syros ducks under 4 meters in length, it’s likely to borrow its engines from the Sonet – read a 1 liter-3 cylinder turbo petrol and a 1.5 liter-4 cylinder turbo diesel. The base trim could have a 1.2 liter-4 cylinder naturally aspirated petrol engine to give Kia the ability to price the SUV very sharply.
Now, if the assumption of the Syros being a sub-4 meter offering doesn’t hold true, then it’s natural for the SUV to opt for a larger, more powerful petrol engine from the Seltos while the diesel engine will be the same unit. Manual and automatic gearbox options are expected on the new SUV. The automatic gearbox for the petrol will be a twin clutch unit while the diesel will get a 6 speed torque converter.
As it’s a Kia car we’re talking about here, expect a boat load of features to be on offer with the SUV. In terms of spec, the Syros is expected to get a trifle more than what the Sonet offers, which is already quite a lot. From a powered driver’s seat to ventilation on both front seats, to a massive infotainment display that’s the best in class, the Kia Syros promises to be feature-rich. As for pricing, the Syros could be about a lakh costlier than the Sonet.
This price strategy will ensure that Kia is able to differentiate the new SUV from the Sonet and Seltos. However, there will be a fair bit of cannibalization happening once the Syros hits the Indian market in early 2025. We’re sure that Kia won’t mind because of the Syros doesn’t cannibalize the Sonet and Seltos, and grow Kia’s market, the competition would be more than happy to do the needful and take market share from the South Korean automaker. We’re now waiting for the next teaser!
