Kia India has launched its latest product for the Indian market. It sits above the Sonet and Seltos in the carmaker’s portfolio. Priced from 9 lakh ex-showroom, the Syros is available in six trims- HTK, HTK (O), HTK Plus, HTX, HTX Plus, and HTX Plus (O). Two engine and transmission options are available as well. This might cause some confusion among buyers. In a previous article, we had given you a breakdown of what each variant packs. Now, a video walkaround of the base-spec HTK variant has surfaced online, detailing everything that it packs.

Watch on YouTube

The video starts by showing the base variant- HTK finished in Black. The host says that even the base variant is decently kitted. On the outside, it doesn’t get LED DRLs. The headlamps get projectors and halogen bulbs. The vehicle comes with 15-inch Steel rims with wheel covers. The turn indicators sit on the front fenders and not on the ORVMs. The side view mirrors get electric adjustment but miss out on electric folding. The variant comes with flush-type door handles.

At the rear, what you see in place of the rear positioning lamps are mere reflectors. Even the taillamps are basic and there are even 4 rear parking sensors as well. The key here is a flip-type unit.

The higher variants get split folding rear seats with recline and sliding functions. The base variant gets an extremely basic setup instead. It comes with just a single bench that doesn’t offer any of these functions. However, the base variant offers retractable rear sun curtains!

In terms of features and equipment, the base variant gets all power windows, two type C charging points for rear occupants, four speakers, semi-leatherette seats, and the same double D-Cut steering wheel as the top variants. The infotainment touchscreen is the same 12.3-inch unit as the top-end variant. It even offers a large digital instrument cluster. The front console also has two type C ports one of which offers data connection function as well.

As shown in the video, the rear camera offers good display quality. The air conditioning system on this variant is a manual unit- not climate control. Unlike the top-spec that comes with electric parking brake, the base variant gets a manual hand brake. The rear occupants get dedicated AC vents though.

As explained in our previous article, the Syros HTK variant comes only with a single powertrain choice- petrol manual. It draws its juice from the 1.0L turbocharged petrol engine that produces 113 hp and 144 Nm. It comes mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox.

At 9 lakh, ex-showroom, the HTK variant packs great value for the price. It gives you a spacious, decently kitted car at a decent price.

Kia Syros Gets Diesel Engine From The HTK (O) Variant

The diesel engine adds much value to the Syros. The 1.5L turbocharged engine is known for its frugal nature. It produces 115 hp and 250 Nm. It is from the HTK (O) variant (the second variant) that the diesel engine makes an appearance on the Syros. The HTK (O) Diesel manual ( the MT is the sole transmission on offer) is priced at 11 lakh, ex-showroom. This means that the price difference between the HTK and HTK (O) is around 2 lakh. This premium is justified considering how capable, proven and frugal the diesel engine is. The diesel Syros will likely have a lot of takers in many cities.
