Kia launched its newest product for India- the Syros on February 1, 2025. With its ex-showroom prices starting at Rs 9 lakh, Kia Syros packs ample value and fits perfectly as a comfortable sub-4 meter offering. Bookings began on January 4th and now the carmaker has revealed that the SUV has managed to gather 20,163 orders so far. This shows high consumer interest in the model. More interestingly, petrol variants have found more buyers than diesels, constituting about 67% of total bookings.

Interesting Consumer Preferences

The Syros offers two engine options- 1.0 TGDi turbocharged petrol and 1.5 diesel. The turbo-petrol engine produces 120 bhp and 178 Nm and comes mated to a 6-speed manual or a 7-speed DCT automatic transmission. This powertrain seems to be in high demand. 67% of buyers opted for this.

The diesel engine is a 1.5L turbocharged unit which makes 115 hp and 250 Nm. A 6-speed manual gearbox is standard while users can also opt for a 6-speed torque converter automatic unit as well. However, just 33% of buyers preferred diesel variants.

Further, 62% of buyers opted for manual variants while 38% opted for automatics- either the petrol-DCT or the diesel-AT.

Now let’s talk about colour options. The palette consists of 8 options- Glacier White Pearl, Sparkling Silver, Pewter Olive, Intense Red, Frost Blue, Aurora Black Pearl, Imperial Blue and Gravity Gray. The Glacier White Pearl appears to be the most popular choice- preferred by 32% of buyers. The Aurora Black Pearl was chosen by 26%, and the signature Frost Blue constituted just 20% of total orders.

Lots Of Variants

The Syros comes in a total of 13 variants. The base variant is the HTK Turbo and the HTX Plus Opt Diesel AT is the current top-spec. Market data hint at an increased acceptance of higher variants and trims. 46% of buyers opted for the top-end variants. Although Kia hasn’t given an official statement on it yet, 18 percent seems to have bought the HTX+(O) variants with optional ADAS features.

ADAS comes at a price premium of Rs 80,000, over the top trim. This variant also comes with a comprehensive 20-item safety package featuring 16 Level-2 ADAS features in addition to various other technologies like six airbags (as standard), electronic stability control, 360-degree camera, and front, side and rear parking sensors.

In Kia India’s portfolio, the Syros sits above the Sonet and below the Seltos. It is available in 6 broad trims, which further branch into even more number of variants. The range-topping variant has an ex-showroom price of 17.80 lakh.

The SUV comes with smart space management and a lot of features on the inside. The most significant attraction is the 30-inch Trinity panoramic display- which consists of a 12.3-inch infotainment system, a 12.3-inch digital driver’s display, and a 5-inch automatic climate control screen.

It also comes with a two-spoke steering wheel, leatherette seat upholstery, rear seats that slide and recline, ventilation for four seats, an 8-speaker Harman Kardon sound system, a panoramic sunroof, wireless phone charger, wireless Apple CarPlay/ Android Auto, and 64-colour ambient lighting.

The Syros gets a distinctive styling and looks boxy. Key design highlights include L-shaped LED DRLs, roof-mounted spoiler, flush-type door handles, LED lighting and a proper tallboy stance.

In the Indian market, it battles with the likes of Mahindra XUV 3XO, Tata Nexon, Skoda Kylaq, Kia Sonet, Hyundai Venue, and Maruti Brezza.
