Kia Teases EV2 and EV4 before Feb 27 unveil: Headed to India?

Kia Motors is gearing up for a significant event on February 27, 2025, in Tarragona, Spain, where it will unveil the EV2 concept, the EV4, and the PV5 electric van. The EV2 concept is expected to preview Kia’s new entry-level model for global markets, the EV4 appears to be a Seltos-sized coupe-SUV, and the PV5 van will be the first Kia model to utilize the company’s PBV (Platform-Beyond-Vehicle) platform.
The EV2 concept is anticipated to serve as Kia’s new entry-level electric vehicle, potentially replacing the Picanto hatchback in global markets. Teaser images suggest a compact crossover design with a baby blue paint finish and a contrasting black roof. The front features dual vertically oriented headlight modules and a faux skid plate, while chunky plastic cladding adorns the lower half.
The Y-shaped tail-lamps exhibit an intriguing three-dimensional look. While specific details are pending, the EV2 is expected to be built on Kia’s E-GMP platform, possibly utilizing a 400-volt architecture. Pricing is not known at this point, but as an entry-level model, it could be positioned competitively in the market.
The EV4 is set to debut in its full production form and is expected to resemble a Seltos-sized coupe-SUV. Teasers indicate a fascia with vertically oriented headlights and thick plastic cladding on the sides. The roofline slopes towards the rear, featuring a distinctive design where it doesn’t flow straight into the rear windshield but has a divot under which the rear windshield goes.
The rear showcases boomerang-shaped tail-lamps and a mild extrusion on the boot lid resembling a lip spoiler. Built on the E-GMP platform, the EV4 is anticipated to offer a balance between performance and efficiency. While exact specifications are awaited, it’s plausible that the EV4 will feature a range suitable for urban and suburban driving, with pricing positioned to attract mid-segment buyers.
The PV5 electric van will be the first Kia model to utilize the company’s PBV platform. It features a boxy, minimalist design finished in a dual-tone paint scheme, along with distinctive S-shaped headlights and thin vertically-mounted rectangular tail-lamps. The PV5 is expected to cater to both personal and business mobility needs, offering flexibility and efficiency.
Kia has previously trademarked eight EV names in India, including the EV2 and EV4, indicating potential plans to introduce these models to the Indian market. However, official confirmation and timelines are yet to be announced. Given the growing demand for electric vehicles in India and Kia’s expanding presence, it’s plausible that these models could be launched in the country in the near future.
In the Indian market, the EV2 and EV4 would compete with existing electric vehicles such as the Tata Nexon EV, MG ZS EV, Mahindra BE6 and XEV9, and Hyundai Creta EV. These competitors offer a range of features and pricing that appeal to the Indian consumer. Kia’s entry into this segment would provide additional options for buyers seeking electric mobility solutions.
Meanwhile, Kia India has announced plans to launch two locally manufactured electric vehicles, starting this year, including electric versions of Kia Carens, Kia Seltos and the recently-launched Kia Syros. The company is focusing on developing models that cater to the specific needs and preferences of Indian consumers, emphasizing affordability, range, and features suitable for the local market.
Kia’s upcoming unveiling of the EV2 concept, EV4, and PV5 signifies the company’s commitment to expanding its electric vehicle lineup globally. While specific details and launch timelines for the Indian market are yet to be confirmed, we expect Kia to initially focus on EV versions of its ICE cars that are already in the Indian market. EV2 and EV4 would require significant new investments and therefore, will probably not come for at least the next two years.
