This State Is Offering Rs. 1.5 Lakh Discount On Mahindra BE6, XEV 9e, Tata Nexon.EV, MG Windsor & More: Details

Although many states across the country are trying to cut back on electric vehicle subsidies, the state of Maharashtra is doing the opposite. Recently, it was announced that the government of Maharashtra is offering a 10 percent subsidy on electric cars. It has to be noted that the subsidy is capped at Rs 1.5 lakh. This means that all electric vehicles above Rs 15 lakh will only receive a maximum subsidy of Rs 1.5 lakh.
We recently contacted three dealerships of Mahindra, Tata Motors, and MG Motor India and asked them about the details of the subsidy being offered by the Maharashtra state government. It has been mentioned that this 10 percent subsidy or maximum Rs 1.5 lakh will be deducted from the factory price of the vehicle (as per the MG dealer).
However, the Mahindra dealership has mentioned that this subsidy will be deducted from the ex-showroom price. As for the limitations, this subsidy is only available for electric four-wheelers regardless of the brand. There is no subsidy for electric two-wheelers and different subsidies for commercial vehicles.
Also, it has to be mentioned that this scheme is only available for the first 10,000 electric cars that will be registered in the state. Some dealerships have stated that around 7,300 cars have already been registered, meanwhile, some other dealers are stating that more than 9,000 vehicles have registered. The exact figure of total remaining registrations left is currently unknown.
On top of this, there is confusion about the starting date of this subsidy scheme by the Maharashtra state government. Some dealerships have mentioned that it started from April 1st. However, there are some who have mentioned that its implementation date was May 23. The official announcement from Maharashtra came around late May.
Once again, there is a bit of confusion as different dealerships have stated different ways of claiming this subsidy. Some dealerships have stated that the price will be automatically reduced from the ex-showroom price of the vehicle. However, others have stated that the owner will initially have to pay the entire amount of the vehicle.
Following this, when the official portal to claim the subsidy from the Maharashtra government commences, they will have to upload their essential documents such as identity proof, car invoice, cancelled cheque, and registration details, along with others, to claim the subsidy, which will be directly credited to their bank account.
What is another added benefit of buying electric vehicles at the moment in Maharashtra is that the state is offering almost free registration. There is a nominal fee (Rs 2,385 in the case of Mahindra vehicles) which has to be paid, but overall it is a significant benefit when compared to ICE vehicles.
We completely understand that there is a lot of confusion, and we are unable to explain what exactly is going on in terms of this subsidy. So, for this reason, we would like to highlight that if you are someone who is interested in buying an electric vehicle and live in Maharashtra, then we request you to contact the dealership of the vehicle which you want to buy and gather all the necessary information.
