It has been just over two months since Mahindra started deliveries of the Electric Origin SUVs- the BE6 and XEV 9e. These were launched in November last year, although we had to wait till mid-March for the deliveries to begin. Now, the carmaker has posted a milestone of completing deliveries of 10,000 units since then. Interestingly, the milestone comes on the day when Tata Motors has stepped in with the strongest XEV rival- the Harrier.EV.

According to the data let out by Mahindra, over 3,000 units of the BE6 and XEV 9e were delivered in April alone. Both EVs have been racking up orders since February 14, 2025, when the window went live. Mahindra says that the first day alone had 30,179 orders!

10,000 of these, they say, have been fulfilled. It took the carmaker 70 days to do this. This would roughly equate to one BE6/XEV 9e getting sold every 10 minutes! Interestingly, all units delivered so far are the top-spec 'Pack Three's.

Deliveries of the mid-spec Pack TWO will commence next, starting in July, with those of the entry-level Pack ONE scheduled for August.

More About The XEV 9e And BE 6

The BE6 is the first product from Mahindra's new , futuristic EV sub-brand. It now has its price in the 18.90-26.90 lakh range. The XEV 9e's price starts at Rs 21.90 Lakh and goes up to 30.50 lakh for the range-topping variant. There are three broad trims offered- Pack ONE, Pack TWO, and Pack THREE, with variant count differing between the models.

Both the BE6 and XEV 9e are based on the same skateboard platform- INGLO. Mahindra has designed this in-house. This modular, high-voltage architecture is quite versatile and can support various top hats. Mahindra offers two battery choices on these vehicles- 59 kWh and 79 kWh- both sourced from BYD.

These come with a lifetime warranty for the first owner. If the vehicle gets sold, subsequent owners will only be covered by a 10-year or 200,000 km warranty. Sales during the past few months have shown that this warranty promise could reassure many with confidence.

The smaller battery is claimed to deliver a range of up to 535 km per charge, on the BE, and 542 km on the XEV. The 79 kWh unit, on the other hand, claims a range of 682 km on the BE and 656 km per full charge on the XEV.

The electric motor on both vehicles, powers the rear wheels, and belts out 282 bhp and 380 Nm of torque. The 59kWh variants come with lower power and torque figures though.

Equipped with seven airbags and Level 2 ADAS, these electric SUVs stand high on the safety quotient and have both been awarded 5-star ratings by Bharat NCAP.

The XEV and BE6 stand distinct with their interior and exterior styling and feature arrays. These make them appeal to well-defined crowds with minimal overlapping and mutual cannibalisation.

Evolving Market Trends And The Road Ahead

The monthly numbers for both the BE6 and XEV 9e have been great so far. April posted the highest sales. These continue to witness a strong demand even at the time of writing this article. A careful analysis of the numbers reveals that more people preferred the XEV over the BE6, despite it being significantly more expensive. Data reveals that 59% of the bookings were for the XEV while the BE accounted for 41 per cent.

Due to the heightened demand, the waiting periods of both SUVs soared to over six months, in April. Mahindra seems to be working on scaling up the production and bringing this down.

The strong consumer interest in the XEV could give Tata Motors a confidence-boost with the Harrier.EV. Tata has packaged (and priced) it in a way that it would directly lock horns with the XEV. Even the price-battle between the two is fierce! While the XEV starts at 21.9 lakh rupees, the Harrier.EV has an entry price of Rs 21.49 lakh! Time remains before we see which of these would take the hit in terms of sales...
