Mahindra BE 6 & XEV 9E Score B-NCAP’s Highest-Ever Safety Ratings [Video]

Mahindra has been working on the build quality of their vehicles lately, and the same is evident in the crash test results. India’s SUV manufacturer has now sent their brand-new BE 6 and XUV 9E electric SUVs to the Bharat NCAP crash test, and both these SUVs have passed the test with flying colors. Both Mahindra BE 6 and XUV 9E have scored a 5-star rating and secured the highest scores.
During our recent visit to Mahindra’s EV manufacturing facility in Pune, the manufacturer explained the measures they have taken to ensure that the electric SUVs have a sturdy build quality. This claim has been proven in the recent crash tests. The first video in this post shows the crash test of the Mahindra BE 6.
In this video, we see the electric SUV undergoing an offset deformable barrier frontal impact test at 64 km/h, a side impact test at 50 km/h, and a pole side impact test at 29 km/h. In all these tests, the SUV performed exceptionally well. In the front impact test, the SUV’s front absorbed the impact effectively. The impact did not affect the battery pack placed under the floor.
The structure seemed stable in all three tests. The airbags deployed on time and protected the adult and child occupants. The BE 6 secured 31.97 points out of 32 in Adult Occupant Protection. The electric SUV scored 45 points out of 49 in Child Occupant Protection.
In the second video, we see the larger XUV 9E undergoing the crash test. Just like the BE 6, the XUV 9E also went through the same crash tests. The SUV was sent for a front offset deformable barrier impact test at 64 km/h, a side impact test at 50 km/h, and a pole side impact test at 29 km/h.
It secured high marks in all three tests. In the front crash test, the SUV appeared extremely stable, and the impact did not reach the cabin at all. The occupants or dummies in the cabin survived the crash without any major injuries. Both the Mahindra XUV 9E and BE 6 platforms are designed to ensure that, upon impact, the battery pack placed under the floor remains protected and doesn’t catch fire or sustain damage.
Coming to the score, the Mahindra XUV 9E secured full marks in the Adult Occupant Protection category, scoring 32 points out of 32. In Child Occupant Safety, the electric SUV scored 45 points. Most manufacturers who have sent their vehicles for the Bharat NCAP crash test have not been able to achieve this score.
Both the BE 6 and XUV 9E are not only the best-performing EVs in the crash tests but also the best-performing vehicles in the Bharat NCAP tests to date. These electric SUVs have set a new benchmark in crash tests. The Mahindra BE 6 and XUV 9E are RWD SUVs, and both come with two battery pack options—a 59 kWh and a 79 kWh option.
The price for the BE 6 starts at ₹18.90 lakh (ex-showroom) and goes up to ₹26.90 lakh (ex-showroom). The XUV 9E, a larger electric SUV, starts at ₹21.90 lakh (ex-showroom) and goes up to ₹30.50 lakh (ex-showroom). Bookings for the electric SUVs will officially commence on 14th February, and deliveries are set to start early in March this year.
