Mahindra’s new-generation electric SUVs, the BE 6 and XEV 9e, have collectively crossed 20,000 sales within five months of their launch. The milestone underlines their shift from being considered niche products to becoming family-ready primary vehicles. Together, the two models have clocked more than 9.3 crore kilometres on Indian roads, highlighting both customer confidence and growing adoption of EVs in the mainstream SUV segment.

Rapid Sales Growth Across 2025

Between January and June 2025, Mahindra’s Chakan plant manufactured 19,915 units, with 19,070 reaching dealerships. Of these, 12,585 units were retailed in the first half of the year, a 225 percent rise over the 3,870 units sold during the same period in 2024.

The performance has lifted Mahindra’s share of the electric passenger vehicle market to 17 percent, placing it behind Tata Motors at 38 percent and JSW MG Motor India at 32 percent.

For a company that entered the electric SUV race later than its rivals, the progress is notable. Mahindra’s SUVs have found traction in the premium mass-market space where imported EVs once dominated.

Both SUVs are based on the INGLO platform, developed specifically for electric vehicles. They offer two Lithium Iron Phosphate battery options, 59 kWh and 79 kWh. The smaller pack produces 231 horsepower, while the larger outputs 286 horsepower, with both delivering 380 Newton-metres of torque.

Range spans from 542 km for the standard XEV 9e to 682 km for the BE 6 Pack Two. Fast-charging capability from 20 to 80 percent in 20 minutes using a 175 kW charger has helped ease concerns about long-distance usability. Safety is another selling point, with both models carrying a five-star Bharat NCAP rating, seven airbags, and semi-active suspension.

Mahindra has also bundled in its MAIA artificial intelligence suite, which offers real-time diagnostics, voice control, drive personalisation, and over-the-air software updates. Features such as triple-screen layouts, premium audio, wireless charging, and advanced driver assistance underline the modern positioning of both SUVs.

Price Bands and On-Road Performance

The BE 6 starts at ₹18.90 lakh for the entry Pack One and tops out at ₹26.90 lakh for Pack Three. The XEV 9e is positioned higher, priced between ₹21.90 lakh and ₹30.50 lakh. Deliveries began with premium Pack Three trims in March 2025 before expanding to mid-spec variants in the following months.

Performance is strong by SUV standards. Both models can accelerate from 0–100 kmph in 6.7 seconds and reach top speeds above 200 kmph. The rear-wheel-drive setup has also been highlighted for delivering a more engaging drive than conventional ICE SUVs in the same bracket.

Signs of a Strong Rivalry Emerging

Sales data shows healthy momentum. The BE 6 managed 934 units in March, dipped to 550 in April, then climbed to over 1,200 units in both May and June. The XEV 9e has been steadier, with numbers above 2,000 units each month and a peak of 2,815 in May. Production also hit its highest in May at 3,692 units, with 4,021 units dispatched to dealerships.

This consistency has positioned Mahindra as a real competitor to Tata, which has seen its EV market share drop from over 70 percent in early 2024 to around 38 percent by mid-2025. The rise of Mahindra, alongside JSW MG, signals a much more competitive landscape for electric SUVs in India.
